Ackerwoman Sighting…

With all that money I made raising money for Dick I can buy a lot of stuff at Cosco!
With all that money I made raising money for Dick I can buy a lot of stuff at Cosco!

A Friend passed along  a tip just this morning that Linda 19% Ackerwoman was recently sighted shopping at Costco. Well, to actually be more specific, it was at the Costco in Irvine. What about shopping “Fullerton First” on the part of one of Fullerton’s more recent residents.

So do she and Dick still live in the “granny flat” in Dr. Dolan’s house? Inquiring minds want to know.

Fullertonians Eighty-six Table Ten

We hear that Table Ten is no more. After moving to downtown Fullerton from Placentia several years ago, the restaurant gave it a good go, but just didn’t have the support. It always seemed like a pretty good place to go and have a drink and dinner. Maybe the location wasn’t too hot.

Oh, well, that’s life (and death) in the restaurant business. Maybe the place can become something more congenial to folks who like to socialize downtown.

Marty Burbank Hopes Norby Has Short Memory

Well, you’ve gotta give Marty Burbank credit for unmitigated gall; or as my friend Jeffrey Goldfarb’s Nana used to say in Yiddish: chutzpah.

This Chamber of Commerce/Repuglican/Rotarian/Redevelopment cheerleader-type zero (think Dick Jones and you have the model) who wants to be on the Fullerton City Council, recently sent this supplicating letter to 4th District Supervisor Chris Norby. One of our fearless white van investigators got a hold of it.

Marty the One Man Party
Marty The One Man Party...

Marty wants Norby’s endorsement, and tries to grease up Chris a little bit about how much Norby loves his town and ergo should consider giving Burbank his endorsement.

But wait! Only two weeks before he sent his letter to Norby, Burbank was supporting Linda Ackerwoman in the 72ndSpecial Election primary; he made a contribution to her carpetbagging, lying, smear-filled campaign against Norby on October 9th. Burbank’s contribution went to fund the slime Ackerwoman threw at Norby.Oy vey!

It’s pretty clear that Burbank was following along with of many other Fullerton drones who were swayed by Dick Ackerman’s promises of easy victory lubricated by a big ol’ sack o’ Sacto lobbyist cash. Too bad Marty chose to participate personally in contributing to the defamation of Norby, as well as being a willing participant in the Ackerman, Inc scampaign, of course.

Now, we know Chris, and we know him to be a very forgiving kind of guy. But really, you’d think ol’ Marty could have waited more than a couple of weeks to come a knockin’ at Norby’s door.

Hopefully Norby won’t forget. We won’t. And that’s a promise.

An Architectural Tale of Two JCs

Oops. “Community Colleges.” Oops. I mean “Colleges.”

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

while back we spent some time looking at the architectural monstrosities being foisted on students and bond underwriters (us) at Fullerton Junior College. We noted the crappy fake historical detailing, the blocky bulk of the overbearing McSpanish dinosaurs, and of course we regretted the intellectual confusion that equates fake old with real old and believes building crappy architecture enhances historical buildings.

Here’s a reminder of what we were talking about.

We were right. They did put a cupola on it.
We were right. They did put a cupola on it.

Ye gods! A series of out-of-scale, fake-arched, hollow-walled, Styrofoam-corniced, bulk-squatting godzillas dumped across the campus.

We also lamented the fact that in lower-middlebrow land nobody seemed capable of conceiving the deployment of inventive and engaging contemporary architecture.

In response to a follow up post this fall, a Friend forwarded images of some recent buildings that have gone up at Santa Monica (Junior) College. We share them below.

Hmm. Food for thought. Okay, the west side of LA, SM, and Culver City are chock-full of talented architects and designers of the SCI-Arc variety, and north Orange County is chock full of…well, let’s let that one go for now.

What’s baffling is that there doesn’t seem to be anybody on the NOCCCD staff or board with a clue. Instead of doing new buildings that actually stimulate aesthetic interest, they prefer to cough up the dreary, banal, and embarrassing visual tripe of McSpanish. And then threy dredge up support for their travesties from equally clueless citizenry.

Time for a change?

A Blast From The Past?

We got a hold of an invite to a Harry Sidhu for 4th District Supervisor campaign event. It’s hosted by Curt Pringle and it will cost its well-heeled attendees $500 bucks a pop. Here’s the text:

Dear Supporter:  I have had the great pleasure to work with Harry Sidhu on the Anaheim City Council over the past five years.    As you may know, Harry is planning a run for the 4thDistrict Supervisorial seat.   I am supporting Harry for that election.   Even though these are difficult times, I would very much appreciate if you could support Harry at his upcoming fundraiser at the Anaheim White House, on December 16 at 11:30 AM.    Your participation would mean a lot.  The event charge is $500 per person.   Please consider attending and let me know at your earliest convenience.

Regards,

Curt

Cordially invite you to a special fundraising event honoring COUNCILMAN HARRY SIDHU

Republican Candidate ~ Orange County Supervisor, 4th District

We have already addressed Pringle’s arachnid qualities, so we’ll let that go for now. Of keen interest to Fullertonians will be the name of one of Harry’s benefactors: “Ajit Mithwalia.” Could that really be Ajit Mithaiwala? The Ajit Mithaiwala?

Fort Mithawalla
Fort Mithaiwala

Last spring we detailed the long, sad, and disastrous story of the Fullerton “City Lights” SRO project (two installments of which are here, and here);  a project in which LA developer Ajit Mithaiwala figured prominently, both as the Plan B developer dredged up by Redevelopment director to save the fiasco; as the man who threatened to sue the City for make believe breach of contract; and who then took several years to finish his project.

What Mithaiwala has been doing for the past 10 years is anybody’s guess, but the fact that he might be popping up now is pretty interesting. The fact that he originally received a million bucks from the County for his project and might now be dabbling in County politics is interesting, to say the least.

Of course we could be wrong. Maybe this is just some guy named “Mithwalia.”

Another Pellet Lands On Our Doorstep

On a post we did the other day about the Red County blog signing up a RINO, we received this choice nugget from our ethically challenged nemesis, Matthew J. Cunningham:

We’ll remember that when you faux conservatives on FFFF come out for Lou Correa next year.

Hmm. That was a pretty uninformed comment, even from our rodentine pal.

It's not true that we eat our young...
Yes, it's true. We eat our own babies.

As readers of this blog know, our primary aim is to promote political representatives that are accountable to their constituents, and not to themselves, the bureaucracy, or to lobbyists. Many of us happen to believe that conservatism is more likely to produce that result than liberalism. But we recognize all too well that plenty of so-called conservatives are the biggest government supported parasites we can think of. Consider the money machine that is Ackerman, Inc.

Faux? Poor Mr. Cunningham. Dragged down by the pecuniary interests of his boss John Lewis, he is forced to step and fetchit for the Democrat Tom Daly, making him not only just about as faux as you can get, but a sorry flunky, to boot. And here we  have hit the river bottom of the Repuglican food chain.

Come on in. The water's great!
Come on in. The water's great!

Lou Correa has his faults, to be sure. If a better candidate comes along we’ll be all for him or her. But if the alternative is some carpetbagging wacko Bible beater, seemingly backed by the same Repuglican machine that spit out Linda Ackerwoman, then  Hell, it looks like a pretty easy call.

Dick Jones Holds Forth. Again.

We really couldn’t help it. These golden Doc Heehaw moments are just too precious not to share with our Friends. Here he is trying to explain, in his classic barnyard blathering, why he wants to keep Don Bankhead mayor and Pam Keller out. Apparently Bankhead’s flatlining during meetings is no cause for alarm for the good doctor. Somehow Don is needed to help our “very, very good” city manager through the turbulent times ahead. Oh boy, what a team!

Be sure to enjoy the “raging financial torrent” babble-burst at about the 1:25 mark.

Is Tom Daly Pulling Out Of 4th Supe Race?

Art Pedroza over at the Orange Juice blog speculates about it, here.

Well, we have been waiting for some sort of decision by Daly for months as he weighed a tough political battle versus a fairly easy walkover in a re-election as County clerk – a job that pays well, requires little, and is unencumbered by term limits.

We don’t know how reliable Art’s sources are, but if they are, an announcement could be coming soon. If Daly does pull out it will be a bad blow to John Lewis who had been counting on getting Daly on to the BoS where he could be energetically lobbied like a rutting mink.

But if the story turns out to be true, it will be a glad day for Matthew J. Cunningham and his Red County blog who will no longer have to do pirouettes around the embarrassing fact of his uber-mentor supporting a (pause for gasp) Democrat!

Pam Keller, Fiscal Conservative?

Update: here’s a post we did last July that was just so darn comical we decided to run it again. This falls under the heading of weird self-delusion; or, just say anything  – maybe somebody will believe it!

Here’s a fun clip:

“being fiscally conservative as the five of us are

Say What?  She’s gotta be kidding. Does she really believe this nonsense? Can she possibly believe anybody else does? She supported last year’s pension proposal plus the plan to hush it up. She was defending the multi-million dollar McDonald’s move mess right up to the point she realized the jig was up. We could go on and on.

The fact is that only Shawn Nelson can lay any claim to the title of fiscal conservative at all. Quirk can’t, and neither can the two RINOs on the council. Keller is a proud liberal Democrat, seemingly. We read her gushing report from the local Obama rally, a few months back, and we have got to conclude that she goes for all that stuff Obama likes. Now, this is all well and good. Lots of our Friends are libs; Hell, some are even Green! But why for God’s sake pretend to be something you are not? Pam, be proud of your political philosophy. Embrace it. Shout it out loud – you’re a fiscal liberal, and you’re proud! Don’t run from it; it got you elected.

Pam, dear, you may be many things to many people, but a fiscal conservative you ain’t.
