Saturday: Kelly Thomas Memorial Concert and Canned Food Drive

The Kelly Thomas Memorial Concert and Canned Food Drive will remember Kelly with a day of music and donations that will draw attention to the thousands of destitute, whom our cities remain blind to or worse, ill-treat through willful ignorance and neglect. In partnership with Ron Thomas and the Kelly Thomas Memorial Fund (recently founded in memory of his son), the event hopes to open the eyes of Orange County to the alarming growth in its homeless population and just how few resources our cities have to help treat this social epidemic.

Eric Bootow, bassist for fullerton-based Sederra, was inspired by the tragic events of July 5th to put this show together. By reaching out to the Thomas family and his fellow musicians in Fullerton, the show quickly materialized and has since gathered massive support from all over SoCal. The event promises to have upwards of a thousand in attendance with Ron Thomas (who will be speaking) and family also in attendance.

Where: Fullerton Downtown Plaza (125 E. Wilshire Avenue Fullerton, CA 92832)

    1. They will be wearing hoodies, masks and carrying rocks, glass breakers and spraypaint.

…Don’t let them infiltrate this peaceful gathering and try to turn it into a riot. Point them out and hold them down if need be.

If someone is throwing punches, don’t join in (this what they want), instead separate and isolate them.

          1. Anyways, the point is be prepared for them to infiltrate your rally and create trouble in front of the TV cameras.

…Remember, point them out, don’t let them coax you into a fight and always keep an eye on them.

          2. Dang, that sure was three BIG apes, wasn’t it?

You folks are so savvy. Don’t know why I bother worrying. Well, okay, yes I do.

          3. It’s really amazing how often they choose to wear black. Don’t wear black at any protest or rally: 1) so you won’t be mistaken for one of these creeps, and 2) to make them even easier to spot. I think they believe black makes them blend into a crowd easier, so if NOBODY else wears black…..

Wow you guys are ridiculously stupid if you really believe this bs

Which bs? These posts don’t always follow in a directly sequential fashion, so it really helps your reader understand what you are trying to say if you include a bit more information (ie: what you are referring to) and thought (what you mean to say) in your posts. “You Guys,” which guys? “This bs,” There is all KINDS of bs posted here, which specifically are you referencing? Please help me to understand what you are trying to say. Thank you.

          All the best,

      1. If I could be there I would certainly bring my HD camcorder and shoot, shoot, shoot! The only weapon I’ve ever needed was a camera.

        1. sadly, there was nothing to film except captain empty pants trying to suck up to us and the drunk, who was not part of the protest getting out of hand, other than that it was boo-boo for videographers. waaaaaaaaahhhhhh!

    1. met tony bushalla, what a nice man he is. did you people know he is financing the recall drive out of his own money?

  1. Everyone make sure you’re equiped with video cameras, cell phones, loud horns, etc.
If FPD swarms anyone, All of US start taping….

  2. Nice chiken. That’s one i didn’t think of.
I wonder if it would be a good idea to bring some of those signs I saw and held at the protest last SAturday with Kenton Hampton’s ‘angry mug-shot’ right before he slapped Mam, and it said THUG COP on top of his photo. There was another well made sign of ‘Cyclop Cop’ very similar.

  3. I find it strange that ex fullerton city council member, Pam Keller who still draws down her teacher’s salary courtesy of the tax dollar funded fullerton school district though she rarely steps inside of a classroom, heads the non-profit(pleeease!) fullerton collaborative that claims to have a long history of helping fullerton’s homeless. Yet, the kelly thomas memorial and canned food drive is the first time I have seen any effort put forth for the benefit of fullerton’s homeles population. No thanks to pam”goofy” Keller’s collaborative and much gratitude to the grass roots efforts of those persons who volunteer their time, effort and money to aid our most vulnerable residents, the homeless. and a thumb down for Goofy pam Keller’s tax draining collaborative

      1. I care about fullerton, too. I am a better person because I don’t expect to be paid for squatting on a collaborative

      2. I don’t know her and I don’t know much about her. But if there was every a time to offer an olive branch to her enemies and come out and openly speak up about what has been happening here, this has been it. Why can’t she put aside her personal feuds and join with all of those protesting for Kelly? Her silence speaks volumes.

    1. The armory is open every winter for the homeless. Should be all year though. There are feedings every night of the week so no one starves. The city has done a lot for the homeless.

    Yes, they’re called provocateurs .

OK, just watched this. Good grief. How the hell are we as humans supposed to evolve if we act like Neanderthals? They look like a bunch of 12 year olds. It’s so stupid. Can we all please grow up now?

Thank you for posting this. I had never heard of it and sadly it seems go along with the bully, small minded mentality of the police.

I hope that Saturday brings out the best in people and raises awareness and much needed funds and supplies for the needy. This should be an opportunity for people to show support and that they want a positive change in our community.

We are better than the bullies that killed Kelly and refuse to behave like them.

    1. interesting. When I posted on another thread I was told by other posters that my mother should’ve killed me, I should take my own life and my child will wish me dead. Doesnt sound much different from fpd thuggery. All because I asked for quiet at night to get my kid to sleep.and here you claim “we are better”
      doesnt sound better to me.
I’ll still donate and see your show. Despite the violence in your hearts. Peace to you.

      1. Let me apologize to them for you. People get a little heated. I understand people in the neighborhood, especially those with little kids who can’t sleep or sick elders or whatever are inconvenienced by the protests and the honking. I respect your speaking out (and getting beaten down for it) and then coming back and speaking out some more. And you’ve indicated you’re on the right side. Peace to you and hope your kid can sleep. I know how that is!

          1. Thank you, JT. I AM and will remain on the side of justice. I stand with you all. Isn’t that what matters?

YOU NEED TO BE ON ALERT FOR THE FULLERTON COPS PLANTING RINGERS IN THE PEACEFUL CROWD TO INCITE A RIOT TO JUSTIFY THE OPPORTUNITY TO PUT AN END TO THE KELLY THOMAS MOVEMENT.

  7. PLEASE-PLEASE GO LOOK AT [PLOICE ONE.COM] THIS IS WHERE THE COP,S. DO A SHOW AND TELL ON HOW TO KILL US AND GET, AWAY WITH IT,JESUS AM SICK NOW. GOD BLESS THE GOOD PEOPLE OF FULLERTON.

    1. penal code section 422.6(b) prohibits the taking of personal property by police, go read the law and be prepared.

        1. lookk it up on findlaw, read 422PC and it’s subsections, they are relevant to the protests. we need mardrosian on speed dial!

ALL EYES AROUND THE WORLD ARE FOLLOWING THIS MOVEMENT THE CITY BOSSES KNOW THIS AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE D A TO SQUASH IT. AND HE WILL AS ORDERD BY HIS MASTERS.

    1. ralphy, chronic pain keeps me from sleeping sometimes at night, you must get some sleep to rest your brain to regain lucid thoughts. there are no masters, only three silly, old men and six cruel men wearing fullerton police uniforms

THE PAIN IN FULLERTON WILL INCREASE AND WHY DON’T YOU ENJOY YOUR EARLY RETIREMENT AT THE ABUSE OF US TAXPAYING CITIZENS IN THIS CORRUPT COMMUNITY THAT YOU AND YOUR FELLOW PIGS HAVE DESTROYED.

  10. I hope this concert on Saturday will spark some momentum with people because another week has gone by without a peep by that incompetent D.A. This is exactly what he is waiting for. For the dust to settle. Shouldn’t the test results have come in already? It’s been two weeks since Mr. Thomas presented the doctor’s cause of death. So where are his notes? The coroners report, etc. Soooo where is Mr. D.A? Where are you, you slimy piece of sh*t? Come out come out wherever you are.

    1. He’s hiding under his desk, waiting for the fpd to tell him what to do.

This dust won’t settle, ever. Not now.

      Justice for Kelly Thomas.

    1. why won’t he be charged? because all cops have sec in or on cops cars. rolling hotel rooms is what taxpayers are subsidizing!

  11. Jane- no punishment or termination for the officer? Sounds like a page out of the ol’ “Code of Silence: Thin blue line” handbook. See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil. That officer should apply at Fullerton P.D. they don’t punish against sexual encounters either.
There is something so disgustingly twisted about these police departments. It’s like you can’t do anything wrong and if you do, it will covered up and swept under the rug.

    1. I am more disgusted now then ever with the city of Fullerton and the FPD. At times I feel the anger welling up inside me like fire about the injustice of all of this.

I’ve had a few encounters with the LA Co’s deputies over the years, both as an LA Co employee, and as a resident. This is probably not the place to go into detail, but what I will say is that I lost all respect for that department. And, I knew that my complaints would be filed in the round basket.

Not a day goes by that I don’t flinch a bit when I’m driving and see a black and white in my rear view mirror. Because I know that some of those men and women are bored, maybe had a bad night’s sleep, are perhaps hung over or are just plain burned out. I saw it with my own eyes.

Years ago I dated a retired LAPD cop. Oh my, the stories he told me! From what said bad behavior is encouraged. He is still torn up inside from a shooting that retired him over 20 years ago.

This is a shattering of the public trust. If police are allowed to abuse the most vulnerable in our society, the ones who cannot speak for themselves, then we have a real problem. The only way to change this is by speaking up against it and getting rid of the corrupt.

  12. What a pathetic mistake.

Was Kelly Thomas hungry? Did he need “canned food” from some brainless “do gooder” concert-goer?

This is a complete distraction (and destruction) of effort to repair horrid government.

    1. This event isn’t being put on by the people behind the protests or recall. Also, why not use it as an opportunity to inform people of what is going on. If 1000 people actually show up, that will be a lot more than the protests the previous weeks. Or you always have the option of sitting behind the keyboard & badmouthing people who are trying to do something good for the community.

    2. I disagree, this event will help bring awareness to the Kelly Thomas travesty, Fullerton government, and I’m sure the food, & donations will go to good use.

  13. Rain, have a little empathy.

I agree that the central issue is justice, not charity. But there’s nothing wrong with charity, either, especially when the taxpayer doesn’t have to pay for somebody else’s good deeds.

So take a laxative and just relax.

  14. just so you know when a cop is behind you and u get worried and you have that hot feeling in your stomach. yeah that’s called the black and white fever. and its fuct

  15. And the ‘Power Tripped’ officers know this and love it.
So let’s get even and always carry a video camera of some sort and follow them with it.
If every citizen going to this event does that, it will send FPD a message. Whether or not those IQ challenged dummies get it, that remains to be seen.

  17. O.k., now this struck me as funny! Right out of policeone.com forum.

An “Internet troll” aka “Forum troll” or “Message Board troll” is a person who posts outrageous messages to bait people to answer. Forum trolls delight in sowing discord on the forums.

A troll tries to make us believe that he or she is a genuine skeptic with no hidden agenda. He is divisive and argumentative with a need-to-be-right attitude, “searching for the truth”, flaming discussion, and sometimes insulting people or provoking people to insult him.

If you become aware of someone that, in your opinion, is a troll, someone who is disrepecting the law enforcement profession, let us know. This will assist us to determine how to handle unwanted troll messages and members.

Please CONTACT MEMBER SUPPORT to report the details of what you believe is inappropriate troll activity.

P1 will relay all such reports to me. The reports will help because with all of the posts that are made to our forums, it is impossible to read each one.

    Thanks for your assistance.

NM cop having sex on car hood won’t be charged
Following an internal investigation, the agency does not believe a crime occurred…..
for the rest of the story:
    http://www.policeone.com/investigations/articles/4302971-NM-cop-having-sex-on-car-hood-wont-be-charged/
Maybe no crime occurred, but it sure seems to grounds for termination. He was on duty at the time.

I was disturbed by that story. Especially the comments made on the posts that assumed it was consensual. I have strong suspicions that it was not. The police use their power to corrupt and abuse those they are supposed to be protecting. Also they are more concerned about their image than the rights of the people they are supposed to be protecting.

I wonder if she was paid ‘hush money.’ Does anyone else find it odd that if it were consensual she would have closed her car door with her dog inside? It disgusts me.

  20. I cant wait to see how many of you clowns get arrested tomorrow. All over some dead felon that his dad didnt even care about.

    1. Please arrest us.

More arrests = more bad PR for FPD = more lawsuits filed with Mardirossian against FPD = succesfull recall = new city council – disbands FPD.

I’ll be with my kids in case you want to arrest them too.

      1. There have been undercover cops at every protest since it started. They are standing to your right and left. They are wearing cameras and audio recorders. They are recording everything as they walk around for future use. There will be even more there tomorrow. All undercover dope cops. Very hard to figure out. Look close and you might see us. 🙂

        1. Yeah right. We would know them by their sack o’ donuts and the candy bars falling out of their pockets. And Coffman can’t even wear that fake beard after that whole embarrassing thing playing Santa at the mall.

    2. is it just me or does anyone else see the sadistic nature of FPD rocks post? Sadism truly has it’s roots in evil, so I’m sort of happy that the rest of the readers of this blog can see that this person is the work of the devil, and also sort of sad that FPD rocks doesn’t realize that his soul is in dire need of salvation.

  21. TO FPD ROCKS,
YOU ARE EVIL WITHOUT CONSCIENCE AND BAD TO THE CORE. TRY TO COME AND ARREST US, FOR WHAT???? LET’S SEE IF YOU CAN BEAT US….THE PEOPLE WHO WANTS JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL AGAINST LAZY COP KILLERS LIKE YOU.

WE WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU.

I welcome YOU recording me tomorrow. I will be sure to have on clean clothes, and fresh breath so I do not offend. I do hope I will make it to your top 100 wanted turn-coats list.

      1. No you haven’t. You are way to cowardly to actually attend one of these. Your comments about the content/people of these protests prove that you have never been to one.

        1. the protest and the fundraiser were wonderfully peaceful and well attended. we really didn’t need capt. emptypants or his minions at either one.

  25. EVERYONE, please be careful out there Saturday at the protest and at the concert/food drive. FPD will be looking for any excuse to bust heads. BELIEVE IT! If necessary they may even try to instigate/create an excuse. Be POLITE and obey all laws. If given a direct order by a cop, obey it. You can sue him later for Civil Rights Abuse, but do not get your head broken. Okay?

    And, take your cameras!

    Let’s be safe out there.

  26. Wow what a great event! 150 people showed up! What great support! You fffers should be so proud! All those Fullerton residence came out to support such a worthy cause!

  27. If I lived in SoCal, I would have been there. What happened to Kelly Thomas was disgusting. 350 is not a bad number. It is extremely difficult to get people together for causes in this day and age, unless they are bussed in from neighboring communities. This is a small, grass-roots group and 350 is a damned good number. Here’s the story from the OC Register:

FULLERTON – Hundreds turned out to a free concert in memory of Kelly Thomas Saturday at the Fullerton Downtown Plaza.

Thomas, 37, was a mentally ill homeless man who died five days after an altercation with Fullerton police officers at a bus depot on July 5.

The “Kelly Thomas Memorial Concert and Canned Food Drive” was staged mainly to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness and mental illness in Orange County, said Mike Klein, spokesman for the event, which featured six live bands that played for nearly five hours.

Attendees were asked to donate canned food or clothing.

“Definitely, it was not a protest,” Klein said. “It was just to bring people together to help people that were like Kelly.”

Thomas’ father, Ron Thomas, and other family members were in attendance.

The crowd started small but grew to about 350 at its peak, Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said. There were no reported incidents.

Close to 1,500 canned food items and enough clothing to “pack a good-sized U-Haul” were donated, Klein said.

Some of the items were distributed immediately to homeless people at the event, he said.

The remaining donations will be distributed to local organizations that serve the homeless population, Klein said.

  28. Haha 350 what a joke !!!!! Most of the 350 were volunteers and homeless which none of them are registered Fullerton voters!! Haha Fullerton residents don’t care about this!! What is it going to take for you fffers to realize that!
