Oops. Slidebro Backtracking?

Brandon Ferguson of the OC Weekly is suggesting that downtown Fullerton bar owner Jeremy Popoff appears to be talking out of both sides of his mouth considering his recent voicemail left at the Weekly, and assertions made subsequently on-line.

On Facebook, Mr. Pop denies dodging requests to talk to the Weekly about his establishment’s role in the Kelly Thomas murder. And he seems to be accusing Ferguson of somehow twisting the words of his voice message.

You can be the judge since Ferguson has thoughtfully posted a link to the audio and shares a screenshot of the facebook page.

True, enough, the actual word of the voice mail message are non-specific – but the topic is clear enough – Kelly Thomas – and Popoff clearly says the stories are “not true.” Since the only issue involving his establishment and the murder are the questions of who made the call to the cops, and why, we know exactly what he is talking about.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps Slidebro is getting nervous about his denial that the call to FPD on the night of 7 /5/11 did in fact come from the Slidebar. But as Mr. Jeremy acknowledges himself, the preliminary hearing is only six weeks off and all sorts of things may start coming to light.

  1. I’m no legal scholar or pundit, but you have to wonder just how liable Popoff might be in any civil litigation.
Also, just how much of his butt is covered by any kind of business insurance he has. Not trying to jump the gun, but you have to wonder…….Huge difference if someone else is signing the check.

    1. Hopefully, when all is said and done, there will be a for lease sign on the building occupied by the Slide-Bar!

    1. Does anyone have ANY balls to put their “real” names??? Come on now…. If you are going to insult ANYONE don’t hide behind “fake” names Karma!!! Come out of the closet!!! We know who the Moron is!

      1. Freydel, if your house was burning and someone ran in your house yelling “fire, fire…” would it really matter if that person didn’t identified them self? I didn’t think so.

      2. oooh, looks like I hit a nerve….Jeremy is that you? Sounds to me like someone else needs to come out of the closet being they are channeling Ms. Bushala in their post.

I will go a step further and I think the posts should be shown by IP number..a.name here means nothing, but you can call me Pat if that makes you feel better.

  2. In a previous post, Ron stated here on this blog that the FPD, FBI, and DA all confirmed that the call came from an employee of the Slide-Bar. There should not be any question about it!

  3. ooo sorry Jeremey you may have to buy your eyeliner at the 99 cent store- reslly you go to nordstroms to get your guyliner…douche-he is upset because alot of Bands refuse now to go and play in there- face it Jeremy- your gonna get run outta town and all your BRO’d snd HO’s wont fix it- you picked the wrong team- so youtell a reporter to masterbate? no only are you ugly but you have no scrupes.

  4. After listening to that VM of Jeremy Popoff talking with Brandon Fergueson, where he says, “Hey man” every other sentence, Jeremy reminds me of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz.

He was also stuffed full of hay, and didn’t have much going on upstairs either.

      1. I know I felt sort of bad for the Scarecrow because I always like that character in the story too, however if you listen to the audio that Brandon provided of Jeremy’s repetitive use of the phrase, “hay man”, you’d realize I was left with no choice.

  5. You can rest-assure the Slimebars days are numbered.. With all the make-up Popoff wears I bet he is a tranny.. Hide your high heels ladies..

  6. Not only did the call come from them, , they mentioned Kelly by name……they wanted Kelly moved from sitting in front of their business. They lied to get the cops out there fast and to take action to move him………..they didn’t realize their lie was going to result in Kelly’s death……..

Popoff is only thinking about the money he’s going to lose……..they should also be charged criminally for using the police on their own selfish motives. The end does not justify the means……………

  7. I don’t believe there ever was a call. I know it has been said there was a call, but I didn’t believe it in July. Smelled too much like a cover-up. And if you think about it, if this blog wasn’t here and Ron Thomas, it might of worked…..most people are uncomfortable with the homeless.

    1. I don’t know if they are uncomfortable with the homeless so much as most people don’t want to have to look at and smell a piss-soaked bum while trying to eat dinner. So yes, the restaurant made the call on behalf of their patrons.

      1. I wonder, Mr. Anonymous, do you think that Kelly Thomas was “piss soaked” before, during, or after the six Fullerton Policemen (and the one’s back in the station house monitoring the beating by radio and camera) beat him to death?

      2. Yes, , how do you know he was piss soaked? I’ve never been to the Slidebar…….but I think their tables for dining are inside, , not outside…..

        1. I don’t know who that poster is, but they posted a nearly identical comment on a previous slidebar blog. Probably a troll…

      3. Well, at least you admit that the Barfbar made the deadly phone call.

Now, you just need to realize that “most people” would LOVE to see a mentally ill homeless person who is ALIVE, sitting on a bench outside or walking around, etc., as per his civil rights to do so, (“a piss-soaked bum” – as you so uncharitably, ignorantly and disrespectfully call him), RATHER than seeing that same mentally ill, homeless person BRUTALLY MURDERED in the street, by those whom we pay to “serve and protect” us.

The lying phone call that was made by the Slidebar staff resulted in an innocent man’s brutal murder. You say that the phone call was made on behalf of the patrons??? Hardly. The patrons all know that the area is frequented by the homeless; that fact has never stopped the patrons from going to DTF before.

Perhaps Jeremy wrongly believed the lying phone call was in the best interest of his own pocketbook; however, in the end, that deadly phone call will be Popoff’s undoing.

When the truth comes out during the trial and the Slidebar’s role in Kelly’s murder finally gets the publicity that it deserves, it will likely mean “lights out” for the Barfbar, I mean the Slimebar,…I mean the Slidebar.

        1. I thought he could get a job at 7-11 working the Slurpee machine, but the more I think about it, he should probably look to find employment with Santa Fe Railroad laying ties somewhere in the Mojave Desert!

      4. When a party opens a gin-joint / restaurant at a downtown public transportation center, they must coexist within the environment they have chosen. Most people could probably care less who is outside after about 20 minutes in that place. At any rate, a bar cannot use the local police department to enhance the ambiance of their joint if indeed that is what happened.

        1. good point. like the mcmansion builder who builds his “Estate” down the road from a swine herd. of course thorough bred horse poop smells like roses.

    2. In the real world a business owner calls the cops and they move the homeless guy along. End of story.

In OC Douche-Berg, off duty cops come over to business (bear in mind some of them are banging some of the female employees there), the owner start prattling on about being in the one hit wonder band Lit, they are impressed and starry eyed then he starts talking about Kelly Thomas and they talk about “fucking him up”, “teaching him a lesson” so the plan is set.

Of course what Mr. Poopoof didn’t expect was their plan to kill Kelly (as police often do to homeless and other “undesirables”). This is often done two ways:

      1. Shoot him then claim that he was reaching for their weapon during a scuffle or reaching in his own waist band for a weapon

      2. Apply all of their weigh on his back causing suffocation and the more they struggle the quicker they die.

Option 2 is less messy, less paper work and most of the time the coroner claims drug use or alcohol contributed to the death.

What they didn’t expect was Officer Retardo Cyclops beating Mr. Thomas face in with a taser. If you’ve ever seen police beating someone they always go for the torso, never the face because the face is easily bruised.

As for who placed the call, I believe the call was never placed directly to dispatch and I do not believe Mr. Poopoff personally placed the call, he had his employee do it. The call was likely placed directly to Wolfe who probably had his minority monkey initiate contact with Kelly.

White guys like Popoff and Wolfe never like to get their hands dirty, they always use someone under them to do their dirty work. I’ll bet Officer Ramos felt stupid and like a $2 whore right around the time the DA announced those charges against him.

The funny thing is he’ll have to keep what really happened a secret because if he talks he’ll probably be facing life in prison.

      1. Just asking…do you think Ramos or Cyclops would ever squeal on Wolfe and Poopof? Did Ramos/Cyclops know/understand the plan on July 5th? IMO, there definitely was a conspiracy to F up, or even murder, Kelly Thomas. Proving it might be difficult.

As you stated above, #1 and #2 are commonplace, all across the nation. And, law enforcement has been getting away with it for FAR too long, thanks to POBAR. The heinous murder of Kelly Thomas is bringing some awareness to these facts.

      2. the most recent statistics say that one third of fatal police shootings for the waistband excuse are of unarmed people. who reaches for an empty waistband?

        1. To answer your question, “Who reaches for an empty waistband?” My answer is NOBODY, -they very likely weren’t reaching for their waistbands at all, or, the officer likely TOLD the victims to lift up their shirts.
Our not so brave, out of shape, donut eating, afraid of their own shadows, sociopathic, entitled LE is just completely overflowing with ridiculous excuses, -that we can all see right through. The excuses are the only things about L.E. that are totally transparent. It’s especially inexcusable when you consider that our finest are trained in martial arts, they carry supposedly non-lethal weapons and they wear bulletproof vests.

Over the years, L.E. has shot and killed more innocent, unarmed people, or sick people who needed help with transport to a hospital for an evaluation than I can count. I remember one killing where a mentally ill man threw a dumb bell weight towards an officer. The officer said that it hit/grazed his arm. So, the officer shot the man dead. Of course, as always, you guessed it, – the killing was ruled to be “justified.” In another case, a group of officers fired multiple shots into a mentally ill man who was on the sidewalk holding only a stick. The officers said that the man had “lunged” at them. Of course, they killed the victim.

Law enforcement shoots or bludgeons to death, etc, then they cover for each other and re-write and re-write their reports. They seem to have several standard fall back excuses that work for them every time. “I felt threatened” “He reached for his waistband” “He was resisting” “He reached for my service revolver.” “I thought he had a weapon.” “He grabbed for my hand”

These excuses seem to work, even if the victim is screaming for mercy, bleeding to death, being crushed to death and struggling to breathe, unarmed, and outnumbered six to one, as in the case of the murder of Kelly Thomas. And, of course, the officers are ALWAYS “correct” and unimpeachable, -especially when they all stand together behind the thin blue line. And, even more so when they have control of the videos, alter the videos, hide the videos, lie to the public, and hide behind POBAR.

  8. They lied on the call and that’s why the police came on gangbusters with Kelly. From there it just escalated and Kelly died……….The content of the call was wrong……they should have said that they wanted him moved, , ,

      1. Dear “One for the books”:
Making a false statement of material fact in a police report is, indeed, one of the “species” of “filing a false police report”.
If the false report was made with knowledge of the falsity, and pursuant to an agreement with others to do so, then it was a “conspiracy to commit the crime of making a false police report”.
The latter act — conspiracy to make a false polic report — is a felony crime. In contrast, the mere making of the false police report is only a misdemeanor crime, and not a felony crime.

The public prosecutors have enough information to go after someone related to the SlideBar — most likely an employee — for the felony crime of “conspiracy to make a false police report”. The fact that the DA has not done so, means that the DA does not want the SlideBar’s owner to exculpate himself by revealing that he did so at the instance of one or more Fullerton Police Department personnel. (Why this would exculpate Mr. Popoff would be a difficult topic to explain here.) Therefore, it is patent that Tony Rackauckas is aware of information that tends to point to a prior police conspiracy to violate Kelly’s rights — perhaps to “teach him a brutal lesson” rather than to kill him, as I first supposed — but that DA Rackauckas is not pushing this collateral criminal prosecution, in order to not reveal the prior police conspiracy.

Now someone try to tell me where my logic in this is wrong. WSH

        1. I tend to agree with this assessment. The DA’s hesitation to release pertinent facts has to be balanced with the public’s very tangible and legitimate right to know in such an alarming case. After a half year, the most basic elements of this case are still shrouded in a cloak of fog. The DA’s official press release of charges which is emblazoned with his offices’ seal, says , “FPD Dispatch received a call reporting a ‘homeless’ man looking in car windows and pulling on handles of parked cars in the FTC parking lot.” See page 4. He claims to have the dispatch logs and audio as evidence. See page 2. Yet according to Ron, Hamilton told him they were looking for a redheaded, homeless man known as Kelly. Unless the DA’s account was just sloppy in detail, either the DA or Hamilton is telling a whopper.

          1. The DA’s Press Release was full of holes and inconsistencies. Several people pointed it out when it was first released.

I’ll try to go back and find a few of those posts later on.

…I’m so looking forward to the day that your wife get’s tired of looking at and smelling the piss-soaked bum that she married, and decides to call the Police to have you removed “for your children’s sake”.

  10. “…most people don’t want to have to look at or smell a piss-soaked bum…”

Funny but a lot of us feel this way driving through DTF on a late weekend night and I’m not referring to the homeless. The three fools should be forced to regularly hose down the sidewalks in what they helped create.

    1. Good one, SherBear.

If ever there was a downtown Jeckyll/Hyde environment, it’s DTF.

I still love Fullerton — during the day. Nice little restaurants, primo little shops and boutiques; plenty to see and do, all the time. Fullerton is still a primo SoCal community, despite the current porcine problems.

We almost bought in the neighborhood last summer (plans change).

At night? Forget it. DTF is a destination point for out-of-town boozers, buttholes, brawlers and barfers. If I lived in downtown Fullerton, I’d hang garlic on my front door every evening.

Thanks and praises to the FFFF crew and posters for bringing back this cool little community. You have presented the template for all American citizens who are trying to save their communities from the scum they accidentally put in power.

      Justice for Kelly Thomas.

      1. You described it perfectly, SDLocal. I especially like BBBB. I do live in downtown Fullerton and the Jekyll/Hyde atmosphere is incredibly accurate. I’m more fortunate than others in that I’m not directly in the armpit of the worst of it. Hopefully things will get better so you give Fullerton another look, we’d love to have you. I think it’s going to take awhile, though.

Still replaying your description in my head. You nailed it.

        1. I’ve never given up on Fullerton, and I never will.

My girlfriend’s daughter was planning on transferring to CSF, but things being what they are up there, it’s clearly a bad idea.

She would have nobody to call if she needs help, for any reason.

I’m born and raised SoCal (late 50’s), I’ve been in two travelling businesses and I’ve been close to everywhere, and observed most things. I used to surf the OC waves, I regularly SCUBA dived the SoCal coast from Dana Point to beyond Carpenteria, I still desert and street hike; back in the day I played in many of the old-school SoCal clubs. I fell into a band that actually made a bit of a splash, if you can imagine that. Five records; some of you 80’s metalheads might still have a bit of our licorice pizza in a box in your garage.

Our first two records were released on 8-track. That’s right. That’s how old I am.

I’m forever in love with SoCal. It’s still romantic. I still listen to old Beach Boys records.

Whatever. The number one focus is on Kelly Thomas. The singular reason I mentioned all my boring personal shit is to say to FFFF that people all over SoCal are watching you. We love where we live, and we want to save it.

You guys matter, big time. I love SoCal, from the mountains to the desert to the sea. None of us want our beautiful country wrecked and raped by a clot of dumb, dirty assholes who were accidentally, ignorantly dumped into power.

Fullerton is the template. FFFF is the method.

          Justice for Kelly Thomas.

          1. Ok SDLocal, you’ve got my curiosity going. I’m also born and raised in Local from the late 50’s and I’ve done a fair amount of clubs from the Coach House up to the Starwood and many in between. What bands were you in and where did you play? If you’re not comfortable going into it here, perhaps another time when we have a chance to meet.

Getting through and past the trials and the Recall is just the beginning toward rebuilding this city. People will fade away and others will hopefully step up in their place to keep the momentum going.

We have to replace these three with people we can trust to lead in the right direction. We must now and forever more scrutinize any and all candidates no matter who they are or how much we might like them personally.

  11. seer2some :Yes, , how do you know he was piss soaked? I’ve never been to the Slidebar…….but I think their tables for dining are inside, , not outside…..

If you have never been there why do you assume, dumbass.

    1. You’re the only dumbass I see, , if their tables were outside, they would have had witnesses that Kelly was doing something to the cars. Also, Kelly was mentally ill, but he was not stupid, , why would he try to breakin a car with people sitting there looking at him?

Your stupid excuse for the phonecall is just that….stupid!……

      1. I actually LIVE in DTF and have been to the slidebar a 100 times. They have tables inside as well as outside on the patio (smokers haven). If you had ever been there, you would actually know what you are talking about. When your sitting out on the patio having a drink, you’re not paying attention to the parking lot. And besides, you can’t really see past the first car in each row. I know people that USED to ride the metro to get to work. They stopped because their cars were constantly being broken into. I’m not making an excuse for anybody, just saying.. the parking lots around there are notorious for having cars vandalized and broken into. If someone did call and say that there was someone breaking into cars, it would be the norm rather than the unusual.

  12. Captian Angel Goode :In the real world a business owner calls the cops and they move the homeless guy along. End of story.

You are so stupid with your comments. You dont even know what the hell you are saying. You are one of the many that adds fuel to the fire to make the story jucier so everyone will be glued to this website. God realling knows what happened and it will all come out in March. You are all going to feel so stupid when it does. What a waste of time this has been for all the innocent. Cops who are doing their jobs, to parents who dont give a rats ass about their kids. The only one who wins will be ron thomas who will get his blood money. But that also will not be his gain, but his loss.

    1. You are the one that is stupid…….I got my information from the one that made the call (and other sources)…….I already know what’s going to come out in March.

Your time would be better served planning what you’re going to do when the truth comes out….such as what to do about getting caught filing a false police report and how to defend yourself in a lawsuit where your self serving actions resulted in another person losing his life.
You know, , they apportion liability in lawsuits…

    2. You are so stupid with your comments.

Hmm …Trolling, Satire or Serious. I’d like to think two out of three but I could be wrong.

it will all come out in March. You are all going to feel so stupid when it does.

J, quite a few people said the same thing about the DA filing charges and of course the truth was even worse than we could have imagined.

ron thomas who will get his blood money.

Indeed and the irony is you clearly don’t understand the definition of “blood money” because if you did you wouldn’t be using it in that context considering your stance on Ramos and Cincinelli.

that also will not be his gain, but his loss.

      Indeed, he lost his son.

The money will quickly come and go but he will have to live with the sounds of his son’s screams, the sights of his bludgeoned face and lifeless body. He will always know that his son felt hopeless, powerless, suffered immensely and was faced unimaginable fear in the minutes before he become unconscious and ultimately died.

    3. I get it now, , , you are one of the ones that took Popoff’s Christmas card seriously…….. well, , stick to what you know………

…I guess the real question then would be, with some of the dining occurring outside at the Slidebar, why were you sniffing at people to discern whether they’re urine soaked or not?
Is the food really that bad there that you have to divert your senses elsewhere?

  14. Just a side note from reading the Fullerton City Clerk’s website, which states that the Slidebar donated $500 to Chief Pat McKinley’s campaign for City Council on 10/29/2010.

I also noted that City Councilman Don Bankhead was the recipient of $5,000 on 10/12/2010 from “Fullerton Towing” to help get him elected?

I have been there stupid and there is tables outside that is why they didnt want smelly no shirt Kelly Thomas hanging around. He knew what he was doing when he tried to break into cars, but he was stupid to fight with cops. Dumbass

    1. You have been there, but your information is wrong. I told you, I got my information from the one that made the call to police. Also, , there were other homeless people out in front, such as Richard Fritschie.

aaaaand, , Kelly didn’t try to break into any cars. Kelly ran, but didn’t fight with police…….My version of events comes from the DA himself (who is the expert on these matters), , who filed criminal charges against those cops for wrong doing…..

I have better sources than that. If you want to brag. Dont go trying to pop your champagne bottles to soon. Maybe you should start frying some crow.

    1. Your attitude just confirms what we already believe….that giving food to homeless by the Slidebar, was just a smokescreen and failed PR to cover your self serving actions……

    Someone has control issues.

    1. There is nothing wrong with telling homeless people to …go elsewhere especially if they’re not purchasing but killing someone simply because they’re homeless is disgusting.

The shameful thing is if these officers were caught on tape doing the same stuff to a dog that they did to Kelly Thomas, they would have been fired.

Just imagine 4 cops sitting on a dog, punching it in the ribs and beating it in the face with a taser while it cries out …just imagine.

  19. Only humans show remorse. It appears that we have a few animals out there, that only have survival instinct. The weak and sick are always targeted first.

  20. Rain :I wonder, Mr. Anonymous, do you think that Kelly Thomas was “piss soaked” before, during, or after the six Fullerton Policemen (and the one’s back in the station house monitoring the beating by radio and camera) beat him to death?

Thats why the gloves were on. No one wanted to touch him.

    1. That’s part of their procedures when they are going to search or have contact with an individual. You’ll see that in their intake center when booking someone and at other times.

For those that did not want to touch him, , they sure touched him a lot………. doesn’t mean he was piss soaked…….

    2. Gloves are a CalOSHA requirement for any worker who may be exposed to bodily fluids, even if no such fluids are in evidence. They are considered PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Medical workers, maintenance workers, police, fire all wear them. Next time *you* (Anonymous) visit your doctor, you will probably see the doctor wearing them. Ditto, your dentist.

When they look like K. Thomas you would. Unless you want to have someone who smells bad standing next to you. Or if you are use to the smell, smell on.

    1. Sorry, , the one that made the call is otherwise known as the ‘horses mouth’, , the rest is considered hearsay or gossip………

The one that made the call will be the ONLY ONE called to testify…

    2. You weren’t anywhere around when that call was made, , she told them Kelly was ‘looking into’ cars, , she did not say he was breaking into cars…

You don’t even know what was said on that phonecall……

  22. 4 Shame :There is nothing wrong with telling homeless people to …go elsewhere especially if they’re not purchasing but killing someone simply because they’re homeless is disgusting.
The shameful thing is if these officers were caught on tape doing the same stuff to a dog that they did to Kelly Thomas, they would have been fired.
Just imagine 4 cops sitting on a dog, punching it in the ribs and beating it in the face with a taser while it cries out …just imagine.

How do you know that? were you there? I was.

    1. I’m sure you had your chance to give the DA your version……. But, the DA is the expert and the only one that looked at all the facts……I believe his version. He criminally charged those policemen, , that says it all……………..

    2. So if you were there, why don’t you tell us all what really happened? I am sure everyone here would love to hear what you saw that night.

  23. Lots of professions use gloves. Take proctologist they use gloves. They generally don’t use them to kill people. Old one eyed must have forgot to put his gloves on, so he used the “butt” of his tazer.

  24. I think you should be more charitable to Jeremy Popoff. He is living the American dream: no talent, no intelligence and no morality and still becoming something of a celebrity.

    1. J.P. is FAR scarier looking than Kelly Thomas ever was. At least Kelly Thomas had a valid reason for the way he looked. J.P. is just another, dime a dozen, freaky, puffed up, legend in his own mind, D list, one hit wonder “celebrities.”

  25. seer2some :That’s part of their procedures when they are going to search or have contact with an individual. You’ll see that in their intake center when booking someone and at other times.
For those that did not want to touch him, , they sure touched him a lot………. doesn’t mean he was piss soaked…….

They had to he made up his mind to fight with them. They had no choice. He would still be alive if he didnt fight.

    1. Kelly Thomas wasn’t even conscious when Cyclops bludgeoned him eight times in the face, crushing facial bones deep within Kelly’s skull, which caused massive bleeding and caused Kelly to choke on his own blood. Cyclops also did two full body knee drops on Kelly, crushing Kelly’s face and throat and Tasered Kelly, AFTER Kelly was already unconscious. Kelly, an unarmed, defenseless man, who was begging for mercy and telling them that he couldn’t breathe, was MURDERED.

    2. The death penalty is not to be administered in the gutter. Kelly never even made it to his arraignment. What is this North Korea?

  26. Disgusted :So if you were there, why don’t you tell us all what really happened? I am sure everyone here would love to hear what you saw that night.

The people that matter already know what happened that night. You ffff’ers can make up what ever you want. You have been doing it from the begining.

    1. And, I suppose the D.A. is making up whatever he wants, too? You really should step away from the thin blue line.

  27. He wouldn’t be in all this shit if he would have kept his mouth shut from day 1! Karma will get you back everytime, i hope it hurtz!!!!!
    P.S. Sigh the recall!!!!

  28. His early statements seem exaggerated and really contradicted other peoples accounts. A lawyer would have told him to shut up, like his employees do.

  29. Wow. You’re all a bunch of holier than thow douchebags. The cops killed the guy. Blaming the Slidebar is moot. It’s still packed on the weekends. What have you accomplished?
