Bruce Whitaker is Running for Fullerton City Council

Here’s some big news. Fullerton resident Bruce Whitaker just pulled papers to run for city council.

Given the current crop of candidates, it’s safe to say that Bruce is an early favorite. He’s likely to get the endorsements of both Supervisor Shawn Nelson and Assemblyman Chris Norby, along with the GOP endorsement.

Why? Because Whitaker has a long history as a successful tax fighter and a proponent of property rights and personal freedom.

And now on to the chronicles of Bruce Whitaker:

Bruce entered political activism in 1992 when he became incensed at the largest federal tax increase in U.S. history and the largest state tax increase in California’s history under Governor Pete Wilson. He became active in the city of Fullerton the following year when he led a successful effort to recall a majority of the City Council and repeal unnecessary utility taxes. That repeal has saved more than $150 million for Fullerton taxpayers to date.

After the Orange County bankruptcy, Bruce Whitaker debated against tax proponents and authored numerous guest editorials which helped defeat a bankruptcy sales tax in 1995, resulting in more than $2.2 billion in taxpayer savings.

Bruce founded the Fullerton Association of Concerned Taxpayers (FACT) in 1996, a group that successfully stopped the Gray Davis Administration from pushing an unconstitutional $12.7 billion bond offering. Later, FACT sued again to stop a $2 billion pension obligation bond which was also pushed without voter approval.

Bruce is currently the O.C. District Director for Assemblyman Chris Norby and serves as a member of the Fullerton Planning Commission.

  1. Good news. Even if voters don’t agree with all of his positions, they should know that Bruce is an intelligent and reasonable person who actually listens to people.

  2. That’s the best tax-fighting resume I’ve seen in a long time. Good luck beating this guy.

  3. FLASH! Reliable sources, and word on the street, signals that a GIANT will be pulling papers tomorrow for the City Council. All candidates should proceed with caution and assess their commitment and vigor toward the campaign. A historic moment in Fullerton is eminent and the future of the town will be full with promise. Get ready for a lesson on the issues!

    1. Just so long as the GIANT doesn’t have a bald head, I’m down with that!

      BTW, the word is “imminent.”

    1. Yes, we live in amazing times.

But you go ahead and support Chief Cueball – the pension freeloader.

      1. Sippy the kool-aid I think you’re a nut. You refer to a man that has done more good for LA and Fullerton than you would ever know as a “pension freeloader.” I’m curious why he’s a “freeloader.” You do know that he worked very hard for many years doing an exceptional job EARNING his pension. My guess is you have never done anything positive for the city and all you do is sit typing on blogs hoping to impress your dungeons and dragons friends. You probably don’t even know him as it seems you base all your decisions on whatever you are told on this extremely credible site. Sippy I will be supporting Pat McKinley along with a lot of other people in Fullerton.

        1. I don’t know what this clown did in LA. Don”t care. In Fullerton he let his pals in downtown Fullerton run amok at our expense. He developed his laughable “vest” on our time and then peddled it back to FPD.

Done good? What a joke. He’s done GREAT. For himself. He makes MORE IN RETIREMENT THAN HE EVER EARNED WORKING. Superb. And this is the guy you want making police pension decisions. Sorry. No sale.

You’re the one drinking the Jonestown Julip. What is it, cherry or lime?

        2. Kool-Aid drnker the only pals who let downtown run amok was the city council that included your attorney best buddy who has left for greener pastures. If you think Mckinley has made anything on the vest that you claim he peddled back to the PD think again. Again all you do is spew the same crap you read here.

          1. If he didn’t make anything it probably wasn’t for lack of trying. But you admit he worked on his vest on company time?

BTW, his own cops were laughing at him about his vest.

          2. I don’t know and neither do you when he worked on the vest but it’s easy for sippy and you to say that he did. If his own cops were laughing why do I see some wearing the vest? And how would you know that anyways? Did you talk to a friend that has a friend who has a brother who’s wife’s sister is married to a Anaheim cop that knows a Fullerton cop. You and sippy should get together

  6. Bruce is also a long time member of the OC GOP Central Committee. I’m proud to call him a good friend and he has my full support and endorsement.

  7. Dump the existing pug and don’t let the two new ones in. The only thing you have to ask them is “why are you running?”. No more Mayor McCheese, no Big MacKinley, and no Bankhead Jr. They are all there to support the status quo–oversized pensions, handouts to developers, out of control redevelopment, and no budgetary foresight.

  8. Gilligan :

    I have excellent sources.

BTW, if Fullerton cops are wearing this, are they being forced? Who bought these, BTW? And did McKinley “invent” his vest for free?

I already know the answers to all these questions, BTW, so you can consider them rhetorical.

    1. If you have excellent sources (which I doubt based on your last post) than you will know who purchases the safety equipment and that each officer has options on the style of vest issued to them. No one is forced. I’m guessing your excellent sources are not even PD employees. I’m done here

      1. Say, Gilligan, are you getting a cut of that $215,000 a year in pensions?

People like you have been saying they’re “done here” for almost two years. And yet you keep coming back.

  9. Back to Whitaker, he’s respected by all those who know him, and he’s one of the best Planning Commissioners Fullerton’s had in long, long time. Go Bruce!

  10. Bruce Whitaker is a great candidate for city council. He is driven by a true conservative belief system and he is a person that will do what he believes is right, not what he feels is popular. Bruce has served with distinction at the county and state levels as a staff member and the city as a planning commissioner.

There will certainly be other candidates but there will not be any better candidate.

    Way to go Bruce!

  11. Many thanks to Admin, Allan Bartlett and Supervisor Nelson for your confidence in my ability to serve on the City Council. I’m honored to have your support!
