We Get Mail: Oh Yeah. We’re Keeping Up The Pressure

We just received this e-mail from a nice lady who recognizes the contribution of FFFF and Kelly’s Army in regards to the way the Fullerton police interacts with mentally ill folks.

Subject: keep up the pressure

I would like to thank you and Ron Thomas for all your efforts.  I am the mother of a mentally ill son who just recently (Dec 4, 2011) had contact with Fullerton PD due to his illness and the way it was manage was amazing and human.  They actually contacted his father for assistance with him and to get a better understanding of his history. I truly believe this is a result of the actions Ron Thomas and you are making.  Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover it.  Although I personally am not a citizen of Fullerton, I want you to know that I think what you are doing matters and hopefully spreads to get the kind of changes that are need when Police are dealing with mentally ill people.  I know I am becomming more active in those changes in the small ways that I can.  Keep up the pressure and the good work.  This is one mother who thinks you are heroes.

  1. Great to see how this was handled by FPD. She is 100% correct about FFFF, Kelly’s Army and Ron Thomas being the heroes that led to this fine police work!!!

    1. It made my day, too. One of the things I miss most being out there at the signature table is hearing positive and wonderful things like this. It should serve as a reminder that we must stay aware and vigilant in our city so history doesn’t repeat itself.

    1. Its a sad day when it surprises us and is worth commending when a PEACE officer doesn’t assault a citizen he vowed to protect.

  2. FBI arrests 4 officers in troubled Conn. suburb

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Four police officers, including the president of the local police union, were arrested Tuesday by the FBI on charges that they assaulted illegal immigrants and covered up abuses in a New Haven suburb where a federal investigation found life was made miserable for Hispanics.

The East Haven officers assaulted individuals while they were handcuffed, unlawfully searched Latino businesses, and harassed and intimidated individuals, including advocates, witnesses and other officers who tried to investigate or report misconduct or abuse the officers committed, according to the federal indictment.

Federal authorities began investigating police in 2009 in East Haven, where the federal probe last month documented a pattern of abuse. The Hispanic population had doubled in the past decade to more than 10 percent of the seaside city’s 28,000 people, but Latino business owners said rough treatment by police drove away many newcomers from Mexico and Ecuador.

The arrests were welcomed by Hispanic business owners in East Haven, including Luis Rodriguez, an immigrant from Ecuador who had complained of harassment by police at his Los Amigos Grocery store.

  3. Here are some cop-suckin’ attorney remarks from that Federal Indictment article posted by The Associated Press above:

“John Miller is a hero in East Haven,” he said. “He’s decorated. He’s a wonderful family man. Hopefully, we’ll clear his name.”

Frank Riccio Jr., Spaulding’s attorney, said his client is an exemplary police officer.

“At this early stage it’s our position Mr. Spaulding is not guilty of the charges. He’s been nothing but an exemplary police officer. That’s why this is shocking.”

And this statement from their mayor, echoing McKinley:

Maturo said he backs the police.

“I stand behind the police department,” he said. “We have a great police department.”

Let’s hope the Feds take action like this towards the FPD for ALL of their documented civil rights violations we know about.

    1. Remember when you see and hear attorney remarks that they never “swear to tel the whole truth and nothing but the truth”! So all you can expect from attorneys is lies, obfuscations, and obstruction! Why anyone listens to what an attorney with skin in the game tells to a newspaper or online reporter is totally beyond me. It has the same quality as the anti recall efforts never answering the issues and blaming everything on tony bushla because he helps fund the recall.
Attorneys are basically a scam. Why? The entire justice system is set up for needing an attorney. The members of the state assemblies and senate and federal house of reps and senate are 80% attorneys writing laws that require more attorneys. Get the picture? Law enforcement hides their transgressions behind these convoluted laws. Thats the system we have allowed over the years and it needs a housecleaning.

  4. East Haven is another cesspool of corruption! Then there is Fullerton, where someone thought having a extraordinary number of bars and other alcohol serving establishments would be a great idea! Lets see, there is lots of cash flowing in and money for illegal slush funds which of course are cash!
Now if only we could use Redevelopment monies to encourage more bars to open in Fullerton, it would be fantastic!

    1. Hmmm, you know what would be even BETTER than bars? Tattoo parlors that are open for hours after the bars! Now if we can only get Starbucks to start selling booze…..

  5. I dont know what the FBI is doing but there is a lot of, judicial, civilian, and media oversight. Im sure there are many actual FPD officers and city employees that act in the moral and lawful interests that they serve.

The Government Teat is a powerful, dangerous, animal. Even Europe is quickly moving to conservatism.

A money-driven conspiracy of liars, cheaters, and conartists claiming to control all morality. They assume that they know everything, including the difference between right and wrong, but to not realize how hypocritical they truly are. They will create their own destrution, while their victoms sit and watch them fall.

A bunch of evil people who wish to inslave every man, woman, and child.

An intrusive body that has recently decided to reach far beyond the boundaries set by itself during its origination; A machine capable of progressing the lives of many people to points of imminent gloom

    1. Who is this guy, “Scooterman”? I wonder if he gave testimony to the DA and FBI. He appears to be an intelligent individual and was in a good position to witness the murder of Kelly Thomas.

  7. Maybe Dr. Ott could provide some insight as to some possible psychological similarities between Cicinnelli and that guy with the bizzare name who recently murdered those homeless people in North OC.
After all, they were both ex-marines and apparently suffered from PTSD. Just makes me wonder what makes them go off on non-threatening homeless people. Could it be that all of their facial hairs make them appear somewhat Muslim-looking?

  8. sadly, it took the murder of a homeless, disabled,130 pound man by Fullerton police officers, to awaken the Fullerton Police Dept. to the unique needs of our town’s homeless and mentally ill.
And I find this strange because Fullerton home boy, Rusty Kennedy, and his Orange County Human Relations has justified its existence, since the 1970’s, to the Orange County Board of Supervisors as the county’s mediator and clearinghouse for OC communities’ complaints of civil rights abuses committed against them by their local police forces.
And even stranger, I would think Rusty Kennedy would have been aware of Fullerton Police Dept.’s civil rights abuses at least a decade long than most people in Fullerton because he is a colleague of ex-Fullerton Police chief and now current Fullerton city councilmember, Pat McKinley.

  9. That was a nice letter to read.

I can tell you with absolute knowledge that blogs like this, DO have an immediate effect on how a public entity will react to comments in places like this.

Make no mistake everyone reads the blogs and feels the effects of the comments made.

Of course they will never admit to such.
