I Pity the Poor Immigrant, Part 3. City Council Dropkicks Financial Aid Plan for Undocumented

On Tuesday the Fullerton City Council killed a plan by Ahmad Zahra and Shana Charles to dole out $200,000 to the victims of Immigration and Custom Enforcement depredations.

The item was “tabled,” meaning it isn’t coming back. Fullerton does this because two councilmembers can keep bringing something back ad infinitum unless a majority makes a positive vote that it not come back. Fred Jung, Jamie Valencia and Nick Dunlap voted in the affirmative.

The idea itself, as with most squishy-feely liberal brainstorms, was based on the supposition that the people of Fullerton should pay for legal help and “basic necessities” i.e. food, rent, etc., for people harassed by ICE – even and especially undocumented immigrants, i.e. Illegal aliens.

Off we go, into the Wild Blue Yonder…

The idea was to toss the money into the caring hands of non-profit entities who would then distribute the largesse, somehow, somewhere, to somebody. Deduct administrative overhead all around. The opportunity for waste, even if the cause were just and appropriate, should be obvious to anybody with sense.

Sense. Therein lay a problem.

As usual with this sort of thing, the council chamber was packed with pro-government giveaway types, many from outside Fullerton – people who believe it is the taxpayers job to subsidize their charitable impulses. This attendance will be misrepresented by the Fullerton Observer Kennedy Sisters and other boohoos, of course, as “the People” want this or that; or “the People have spoken;” or “listen to the People;” or to be more precise “Fred Jung failed to listen to the People.”

Put the money in the hole…

What the majority of people in Fullerton really think about this Berkeleyesque scheme isn’t known, but I bet eight or nine in ten would be against jumping this issue up to first in line.

The discussion did give opportunity for a budget discussion that proved more cloudy that clear. Shana Charles seemed to think she had discovered a vein of gold somewhere in the give-and-take, but of course didn’t have a clue about what she had heard. To her and her playmate, Zahra, $200,000 is just a drop in the proverbial bucket and of no real concern.

Doc Z. gets Syrious…

The funnest part of the evening came when the serial liar Zahra told his own immigration tale of hardship getting a green card.

The one-time Mrs. Ahmad Zahra.

This is fabulously disingenuous because we all know now that he got his green card through marriage fraud with one Michele Salmon, an Arkansas woman whom he married, then quickly abandoned in Little Rock as he went to pursue his Hollywood Dream. FFFF will be sharing a video clip of this newest chapter in Zahra’s chameleon-like origin story, when the City puts it on online.

Organizing this is a full-time job!

The whole scenario was another one of those Zahra/Charles performative, made-for-effect gatherings to promote themselves, and no doubt to try to make the council majority look bad. That’s a poor political strategy. It’s going to backfire badly on Zahra, if he decides he still needs a councilman’s income after 2026; and just as disastrous for Shana Charles who has already announced her continuing “journey.”

“Charles Voted to give $200,000 to Illegal Aliens.” And so on.

  1. Political theater over the public good has been a trademark of the Ahmad Zahra “brand”.

Anyone with a grade school education can see through his bimonthly performance.

Tragically for Fullerton, FSD’s Board of Trustees has Ruthi Hatchet, the zoot suit tailor, and the always running for an office Miguel Alvarez, who was recently “appointed”, dictating curriculum, so there is little hope elementary school education will get better.

  2. The room was full! The People Demand! The People Cry Out for Justice! Walk on Wilshire! Trail to Nowhere!

The People Demand the Leaders follow them!!

      1. Elijah’s the best crisis actor on earth. Like every 10 year old, everything’s an emergency. Don’t give Bushala a useless loading dock at the train station; it would mean the end to Fullerton if there is a full service restaurant there. Don’t give downtown a noise ordinance; it would mean the end of businesses downtown because now outdoor live music is legal. Don’t open Wilshire Avenue to car traffic; businesses on Wilshire have never done better helped by the visibility. Don’t block funding for a useless trail that will cost millions so people like me can feel good about being white; yet I bitch that millions went to returfing a field that is one of the most used in Fullerton by the entire city. Toddlers say and do the darnest things.

        1. Zahra used Lion’s Field as an example of north Fullerton bias, completely oblivious to the fact (or ignoring) that the complex is used by people throughout the city. He might be surprised how many 5th District kids use it.

But then the only thing he knows about exercise is that he has to exercise his imagination while creating his latest “origin narrative.”

          1. Also north Fullerton is a flood control area so no homes are allowed there. It saves south Fullerton from floods like the one in the 30’s!!!

  3. This is great news !!!
Charles send me a response to my email to her on opposition.
    Marlene –
Thank you for reaching out. Please note that the City of Fullerton does have, within our nearly $280 million annual budget, funds already budgeted for: 1) rental assistance for low-income families, seniors, and veterans, 2) food assistance for seniors and support for local food pantries, and 3) roughly $10 million for roads and infrastructure repair. This is just our annual budget and what our city does to provide a basic level of decent living for our residents. I agree that we need to do more on fixing our roads, but that does cost $1 million per mile and we need to generate more revenue to make a real impact in our $150 million backlog of road repair.

Additionally, I believe you have been misinformed as to the proposals that will be discussed tomorrow evening. The limited funds, likely to be capped at less than $100k, are to help anyone who has been targeted, harassed, and illegally detained by ICE. This agency is disregarding the 4th and 5th amendments of the US Constitution and committing their acts of violence against our residents regardless of citizenship status. We have documented cases of US citizens being illegally targeted right here in town. And the chilling effect that these illegal ICE actions have had on a broad swath of people of color in our city has caused many to be cut off from employment. With the current cuts in SNAP benefits, our residents need us now more than ever to provide help with basic living needs. The other programs that we currently have will also continue.

I hope that you find it within your heart to have compassion for your neighbors who are experiencing terrifying persecution because of their skin color or spoken language. This is how we show that our city stands up for human rights and the US Constitution.

We are in complete and total opposition to this proposal !
Fullerton has no money for this.
    Fix our roads and infrastructures.
Clean our streets of homeless, transients stealing from residents.

    1. “I hope that you find it within your heart to have compassion . . .”

Patronize much Mayor Elect Charles? Makes me cringe. Lots of things about her do.

  4. Did you see the carpet bagger Jose “Trinidad” up there talking about Jaime Valencia not escaping this vote… too bad Fred had a plan and he said no vote that night. Looks like the Bushala Gang win again………. great to see how they all come together to squash the Dems,,,, but isn’t Jamie a Dem? She confuses the public and does not how to vote unless her daddy Fred tells her to do what he says. Of course, we all know Fred carries the stick and whips his other two cronies into shape.

    1. “Of course, we all know Fred carries the stick and whips his other two cronies into shape.”

      Somebody has to.

  5. “Council Member Jamie Valencia had no report or comment.”

How long until Linda Whittaker can take this seat………..

      1. The laugh is how districts 4 has absolutely no representation. Chick is just a seat warmer. Can’t even be bothered to say two words.
Guess it is like the old saying goes, better to remain silent and appear stupid than to open your mouth and erase all doubt.

        1. Who is she warming the seat for? Bruce represented the district for over 10 years. I shutter to think about what Fullerton would be like if Kitty would have won.

      2. I have never seen a candidate try so hard to not win. She was more interested in going to the Lasorda hometown.

        1. Please replace “to not win” with to “not even try.” Her mail piece included 70 year old leathered bikers.

    1. No, just not pitching $200,000 into a void of unaccountability to make a few boohoos and out-of-towners feel good about themselves.

    2. Why is it racist and xenophobic, exactly? It’s easy to say stuff like that but a lot harder to demonstrate you point.
