The Great Plutonium Scare and The Local Media Dust Up

It is no secret that we here at FFFF have little use for the brainless Establishment boosterism that some clown named Davis Barber dishes out at a website called FullertonStories under the rubric of fair, balanced journalism. Of course this man is entitled to ladle out any crappy pabulum he likes and can call it anything he likes, even “journalism.” Who can ever for get the ridiculous lies by Richard Fritschie, happily passed along by Barber in the wake of the Kelly Thomas murder.

However, this story is about a hoax earlier this month, a false tale that somebody was in possession of plutonium at the FPD HQ. Apparently the Homeland Security apparatchiks rode to our rescue and our local leaders, as usual, were given little or no information about what was going on. This was reported in The Fullertonion, here, and here. A news source was Mayor Bruce Whitaker.

At the next council meeting Mr. Barber, apparently offended that he had not been granted an interview, showed up to chide mayor Bruce Whitaker for not returning his frequent entreaties to talk to him. This public importuning resulted in offending the good folks at The Fullertonion who took umbrage at the assertion that they were somehow inferior to FullertonStories as a journalistic endeavor, and who share the whole story, here.

A tempest in a teapot to be sure. But underlying this fracas is the reality that Whitaker didn‘t choose to communicate with Barber, a choice obviously based on some cause.

It may very well be that Whitaker, like FFFF, sees FullertonStories and Mr. Barber just a shill for whatever his pals in the Fullerton City Hall bureaucracy want him to promote. During the past two-years’ revelations of serial crimes committed by the FPD, and an illegal rip-off of almost $30,000,000 in an illegal water tax we’ve heard virtually nothing from Barber that could possibly be construed as reflecting negatively on the egregious behavior of the City Manager, the City Attorney or any employees of Fullerton or their protectors on the City Council.

And when you think about it that’s quite a feat.

Anyway, thumbs up to The Fullertonion whose mission really appears to be promoting an informed public.

  1. So what you’re really saying is that it’s OK for our elected officials to only grant interviews to and answer questions from reporters they know will write only positive stories about them.

    Hypocrites!

    1. If they’ve got anything to say, put it in a press release and distibute them to all interested media outlets. Pretty simple. At least if you issue a press release, you retain an element of control over the information.

  2. A tempest in a teapot, to be extremely sure. But by all means, let’s congratulate Mayor Whitaker for choosing to talk only to supportive media — or whatever the point of this story is.

    1. No, let’s congratulate Mayor Whitaker for ignoring a fake “reporter” who sells his dubious media wares to the City and the Chamber of Commerce. Even a tool like you should be able to see the problem.

      1. Hey, if you want to congratulate a politician for not speaking to a reporter, go for it. Don’t worry, I’m sure that no one will think that your thinking he needs congratulations over that looks sort of weird.

          1. You don’t think that Whitaker can change his mind anyway? I’d like to think that you underestimate him.

    2. Thus speaketh another fake “reporter” whose name may or may not be “Diamond” which sounds awfully made up.

    3. What’s the matter? Didn’t you get far enough to read this:

      1. Davis Barber is nothing more than a paid shill for Pam Keller, Jan Flory, and Doug Chaffee.

If anyone cares to look up their campaign statements on the city website, you’ll see that they all scratch each others backs with campaign contributions to each others campaigns to the exclusion of the welfare of the residents of Fullerton, and for the direct benefit of only the public employees such as Fullerton Teachers and the City of Fullerton public employees which include the Police and Fire departments who manage to get these fools elected.

Everyone else is screwed and tattooed.

  3. Pot and Kettle :So what you’re really saying is that it’s OK for our elected officials to only grant interviews to and answer questions from reporters they know will write only positive stories about them.

UM, NO/what he is is stating is, if you have an issue with the Fullertonian, call them if bruce wont answer your calls you have every right to bring it up in city council, but to bash another paper becuase they got a lead, are you kidding me, that aint the kettle black, its called being a person who wants a story and move on it. Barber did not and its his fault, but he feels it necessary to bash another paper, becuase he didnt get the lead.

  4. The Fullertonian found pictures on Facebook asked the poster and then somehow went to Anaheim Fire dept and found the report. Davis Barber did nothing. Eventually he saw the Fullertonians two stories and that’s when the fight started.

    1. Right. Barber is good for regurgitating FPD press releases and that’s it. And really, what kind of “journalist” would post clips of the dim-witted Keller promoting her fake, tax-supported charity.

  5. I think you guys are being unfair to Davis Barber.

Look, I’ve complained to him in the past about FullertonStories’ bias toward liberal candidates and ideas. He acknowledges the bias exists and says he wants to change that. I think he’s sincere, but don’t mistake that for wanting to *eliminate* it because I don’t think that’s what he desires.

He said that Tony, Travis, and Bruce refuse to do interviews and/or have any dialogue back and forth. He claims he would give them equal air time if they would only accept the invitation. Is this true? I have no idea, except that Bruce and Travis declined to participate when Davis did video interviews of the city council candidates a few months back.

Fullerton Stories doesn’t need direct access to council members to report on the merits of their actions. That’s why his reasoning and excuses don’t hold up. He could make Fullerton Stories more fair and balanced anytime he pleases.

As for him being a paid shill, remember his primary income comes from photo and video production. Non-FFFF candidates have hired Davis for paid work. Let’s be reasonable people, self-employed folks cannot afford to turn away business in this economy.

So yeah, calling out Davis Barber is a wasted effort at this point. It’s a free country, let him write what he wants to write. Nobody is forced to read it.

    1. “He said that Tony, Travis, and Bruce refuse to do interviews and/or have any dialogue back and forth”

And why should they? This is the punk who said we should be thankful Bankhead and Jones and McKinley (The City) let us speak in public in the first place. He was the clown who demanded FFFF writers and commenters publish using real names, confusing public transparency with a private blog. He’s the one whose been pimped out by Goodrich and the FPD – just as lame as Ponsi in every way.

I wouldn’t ask this assclown for the time of day.

  6. No one is forced to read it nor should they be forced to partIcipate in it. An offer to Kiger and Whitaker would be just that, an offer not a demand. Running for office plus having jobs and family is very time consuming. Maybe they just couldn’t find the time? And yes it is a free Country Barber is free to be a Lib but he claims he is un-biased so which is it?
Looking at the videos “I’m Pam Keller and you’re not” I would say he has no chance at being unbiased!

  7. Dont worry no one in this city has ever come to the thought, real or imagined that Barber is a journalist, he spouts he has over 50 + years of journalism in his veins. ( I guess he gets to reep the rewards of others hard work) I can attest, those veins have never produced any sort of story, ever.

  8. Davis Barber should change his “Fullerton Stories” to the “Fullerton Panderer”.
For those fools who read “Fullerton Stories” and “Fullerton Observer”, a panderer is not a diminutive panda.

  9. Hey Davis, can you tell us why you no longer work at the OC Weekly? What happened there? Do I get to guess? Or should someone just make up lies- cant unring that bell? What did happen? My sources say: He was let go do to the fact he was nothing more than a very large hack.
    Am I close?

  10. Looky looky, I made an error…. *due to the fact

Hey Barber, I made an error and corrected it, see it can be done. A man at your age should try on being humble, once in his life?

  11. You are running an anonymous blog. You are funny. You take yourselves way too seriously.

    Please people, get lives.

    1. NO ONE TRUSTS THE MEDIA OR THINKS THE MAINSTREAM IS REAL NEWS.. WHAT DO YOU THINK A BLOG IS? CERTAINLY NOT NEWS. FULLERTONIAN, FULLERTON STORIES – FFFF — CAN’T EVEN USE IT FOR FISH WRAP.

      SCHOOLYARD ANTICS.. ALL OF IT.

      1. Yes we are a blog. Take it or leave it. We don’t pretend to be “journalists.” We are citizen opinion sharers. Caveat emptor.

I’m surprised that someone who writes in all caps can’t figger out the difference.

  12. The district attourney accompanied by two bodyguards speaks at womens luncheon @ sizzler n fullerton. Commented briefly about fullerton stating he thinks fullerton Police are doing well overall. I’m not sure he could support that same conclusion If he could walk around fullerton at night and observe how the officers frequently humiliate the people they detain many times holding them far to long with invasive questions and insults before writing them a ticket. The black man they had sitting on the curb on santa fe and pomona drew attention from many people including an off duty bus driver watching from the bus. He was detained for over 30 minutes. With squad car & undercover van. With four of them interogating him. they finally let him go but stayed there for awhile continuing their conversation while blocking the road with their cars after writing him a ticket for open container on the way to the bar.Why not just write the ticket without all the hoopla & interogations. this is nothing new.The best kind of justice we can get here in fullerton is change.

  13. Booshala and kiger know nothing about journalism. You never offer facts, just whiny rants. You spew nonsense and your “few” regular FFFF followers eat it up and spit it back out.

    1. Like Hughes ate it up and spit it back out after he watched the video 400 times and said it would change our minds once we saw it? Journalism is alive and well in Fullerton. Fortunately for the residents and unfortunately for you it is just not where you like it.

      1. He knew there was nothing there until he started getting questioned. Capt Hamilton said the same thing. I hope they put them both on the stand. And also Capt. Mayes who went to all the briefings and said it was ok to use the “F ” word when me necessary.

  14. Booshala and your whipping boy (now know as wet dog with tail between legs) are waste of space. TB only uses this blog to try and bully people. Booshala, were you bullied in elementary school and this is your inept way of fighting back or have you always been the bully? Fortunately, the intelligent people of Fullerton don’t buy your crap and know you for the weasel you are.

  15. I was at the library, enjoyin a coffe in the new cafe, a lady came in and the owners immediately were telling the lady she couldnt stay in there, the lady said it was cold, and she wanted to wait for her party inside, the OWNERS CALLED THE POLICE on a 50 something lady- the police arrived, I just had to go outside and see, I was completey stunned, the asiain owner PAM LEE< of GREEN CAFE,- located at the library- another on EUCLID, they call the police on people in their patrons. I have seen it twice now, can we all decide that- they should not be patronized. They are the most offensive& rascist, if your not asian, they are overtly rude, and will call the police.

    1. If you haven’t noticed, Fullerton is gettin a little asian. And they don’t like anybody who is not asian. Just don’t go there anymore.

  16. Anonymous :Booshala and your whipping boy (now know as wet dog with tail between legs) are waste of space. TB only uses this blog to try and bully people.
