Sharon Quirk, Poor Little Rich Girl and The Myth of the Union/Corporation Dichotomy

I was struck the other day by a post on the Voice of OC(EA) about Sharon Quirk that started out with Q complaining that there is now a target on her back by the GOP who want their Republican seat back. The rest of the post is the typical mush-drivel we’ve come to expect of the local media so I’ll let that pass.

What intrigued me was the absurdity of making yourself out to be a target by the very sorts of people who got you elected. What am I talking about? Check out this post from OC Political. Quirk got almost $300,000 funneled into her campaign account over the course of 18 days – laundered through various county Democrat Central Committees, including obscure Del Norte County – 800 miles away.

As expected, a lot of it came from public employee unions. But a lot of it also came from giant corporations like AECOM, Blue Shield, AEG, and of course, our good friends at Disney. So it would appear that Quirk was obviously looked favorably upon by these corporate behemoths, despite their subsequent attempts to distance themselves from their odd gifts to distant Democratic County Central Committees.

Which brings me to the point of this post.

The whining lefties are forever complaining that the lavish benefits, pay and massive pensions showered upon public employee unions are somehow a necessary counterbalance to all the misfeasance and excessive compensation of those greedy private business exec bastards. Of course it was always a false choice, but that falsity has never been made clearer by the fact of big corporations bellying up to Quirk’s bar.

The fact of the matter is that big corporations like big government. They are comfortable with it; they profit from it. Whether Republicans or Democrats are at the helm matters not a whit. Think big corporate subsidies, tax loopholes, and onerous regulations that chase small businesses out of business and you will start to get the picture. Big business likes balanced government budgets, and if that takes raising taxes on the rest of us, so be it. The very last thing they want is a small government advocate like Chris Norby. Think OC Business Council and you will understand that these people have no interest in anything other than a smoothly run plantation. You and I are the coolies that make the thing run for the benefit of our overseers.

Or to put it another way, the public employee unions and the big corporations both regard the taxpayer the same way: we are just pigeons to be plucked.

It’s actually rather amusing that Sharon Quirk is trying to gin up sympathy for her re-election against the big, mean Republicans, even before she is sworn in. Her dim-witted supporter may fall for that. She really doesn’t have anything to worry about.

Just ask Mickey Mouse.

  1. I’m surprised no one brought up her playing the name game.

She’s tagged her ex-husband’s Hispanic name “Silva” onto her own to appeal to a certain constituency.

    1. Figures she is what is often called a “hyphenated-bitch” (i.e. a liberal woman would not have the last name she loves so much if her mother at acted the same as her).

A lady has to be pretty for a guy to put up that that garbage. “She and pretty, she just looks that way. Her looks writes checks incredibly fast but her personality doesn’t have the case.”

      http://youtu.be/UG3ExHB133k

But I suppose it got her enough votes.

    2. 65% of the registered voters in the 65th district are NOT Democrats.

Only 23% of the 65th district registered voters are Hispanic.

When one considers these two FACTS, Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva’s victory over the incumbent Norby is even more of a slap in the face to know-nothing Libertarians than what it first seemed.

Norby’s own people, the white, Republican and Independent voters, didn’t want him!

Sharon Quirk-Silva won not because of her Celtic Hispanic last name but because she worked harder than her opponent. She walked precincts for months and knocked on over 2,500 doors. Her ambitious campaign staff had a clear focus and executed a successful strategy by also putting in thousands of hours of hard work.

Norby was a no-show and so was his campaign.

More than that, Quirk-Silva’s populist values and messages rang true with more effectiveness than Norby’s tired old, Tea Party blab. The voters heard both, loud and clear, and were more impressed with the optimism and call for unity being issued by Quirk-Silva. Plain and simple.

Norby can blame his own laziness for his poor showing or he can blame his affiliation with the crazed Bushala FFFF clan. The taxpayers of the 65th were impressed with neither.

      Exceptionalism triumphed over Extremism!

That’s why Ms. Quirk-Silva will be working in Sacramento while Norby will have plenty of down time to write hate blurbs for FFFF.

      1. In my opinion most of her endorsements were a disgrace in my book. The FPOA, CTA, planned parenthood, Dr Pan and the like. She rode the bandwagon that is rolling down the wide road. The thing is overloaded and the axles are ready to break. It is popular these days-something for nothing at the expense of the unseen and borrowing against the future. Norby ran on an ideology of what made this country great and Sharon on the coattails of what is leading to our demise. Look forward to more taxes, and more nanny state legislation. It is clear based on the election results that people can’t think critically anymore-thank the CTA-.After all people can’t live without the government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave. It will be interesting to watch her voting record.

          1. It sure looks that way to me. The damage is done with the super majority in place up there. Odd are it will be temporary but what further damage can be done to our economy and civil liberties in the interim is of grave concern.

        1. Truthseeker, it was Norby’s to lose and he lost. I can’t believe that the Republican Party is the fucked-up mess that it is today. Norby didn’t respect his opponent. This is why he lost. His campaign mail was shit. It was put together by fucking retards. Before you say, “Oh, well his ideals…yada, fucking yada.” It’s about winning. Seek the truth in this-If you can’t win, then you can’t be an agent of change. You become relegated to the peanut gallery. Your OC Liberpublican ideals are nothing more than a provincial oddity, at best. If you can’t sell the program, then the program MUST be shit. It’s a bunch of fucking people who still think it’s 1980. The tactic of fear worked the opposite and blew up in everybodys face.

          1. Both parties are clearly bought and paid for arms connected to the same gruesome monster. The dems blow us out with bankrupting domestic social policy and the repubs do it with bankrupting foreign policy. Voting records used to matter to the voters and Norby had a damn good one. Libertarianism is the middle high ground that would ensure that the last vestiges of our republic remaining could survive. The standoff up north has been traded in for the steamroller paving the road to nowhere for the future of this once great State. The deficits will only continue to grow and as a result we will be forced to sell off more of our key infrastructure that will ensure the continued decline of our standard of living for generations to come.

            1. A little more selling and a little less telling is a good start. I liked Norby and voted for him. He has a decent voting record and he broke ranks to stop the free for all known as Redevelopment. IMO, Royce would of lost, too, if it weren’t for Superpac money saving his tired ass. The Republican Party is left wandering the streets babbling to itself. Hindsight is 20/20, y’all thought Norby’s district was a lock and it clearly wasn’t. I’m not happy about the balance of power in Sacramento. The Republican Party needs a house cleaning. A fish rots at the head.

      2. Exceptional stupidity triumphed. The unions and corporate welfare queens dumped 300 big ones in to get a super majority and put Kalifornia out of business for good.

      1. To support this idiot Golem, Vern Nelson aka Gröfaz, and the Orange Juice Blog’s pro Obama Bolshevist pro union crapola is anti American and soon you will feel it in the quality of your lifestyle……. Enjoy.

  3. Is Sharon Quirk-Silva presently married to anyone?

How long ago did she and Mr. Silva divorce?

ALL of her campaign literature played up the FAMILY aspect of her life. I believe that she was regularly-always addressed as “MRS.” in the city council meetings, etc.

I for one was TOTALLY fooled into thinking that she was the married wife and mother, raising a few children in concert with her husband in that sort of a normal intact family environment.

And, I am particularly disappointed that her campaign attacked Chris Norby, personally, and yet she did NOT participate in ANY debates to discuss any of the issues with Norby, nor did she even attend any meet the candidates forums.

Sharon Quirk now seems to be a TOTAL PHONY.

She should very well be concerned about her ability to be re-elected, even before she gets sworn in.

    1. “Quirk got almost $300,000 funneled into her campaign account over the course of 18 days.”

Prove it! Campaign contributions are a public record.

        1. Another right-wing blog does not a reliable blog make.

However, the $292,000 sum is comparable to the amount personally spent on the Fullerton City Council Recall by one local political activist.

The big difference, though, is that the Democrat’s candidate (Quirk-Silva) won the Assembly seat while the Recall’s candidate (Kiger) lost his Council seat.

    2. If FFFF is running her opponent’s campaign, she has absolutely nothing to be concerned about. Just ask Chris Norby and Travis Kiger.

      1. Yes, and ask Doug Chaffee and Jan Flory.

They are both Recall Election winners, despite the years of FFFF character assassination directed at them.

    3. You stupid idiot. Sharon had four kids with her first husband, Shawn Quirk, and is now married to Jesus Silva.

Her campaign did not attack Chris Norby personally, despite his self-immolating flyer pretending that she had.

She didn’t participate in debate that occurred during her working hours — and Norby didn’t give a damn until he got the poll showing him getting his ass kicked. Next!

  4. Great post Joe. I was searching for words of wisdom to add but I can’t think of any. You pretty much covered it.

  5. Sharon makes my skin crawl. Ever been to one of her events? I like being in 1st grade. She plays games. I can’t wait till she gets sworn in. The good ole boys are going to eat her alive…Unless she gets under the desk.

    1. “The good ole boys are going to eat her alive…”
Ya, and she doesn’t have a chance of winning.

That was the prediction of the 2002 Fullerton City Council race when her opponents suffered a delightful beatdown. Her victory saw her receiving more votes than Shawn Nelson.

2012 65th Assembly race. Deja vu, except this time it’s Norby left in her dust.

      1. Incorrect, dummy. She was elected in 2004. get your facts right. She was elected the year Clesceri got beat down after he tried to rat out the DA and got a disability retirement from the County.

        1. You’re right. It was 2004. Thank you, smarty.

Now I remember . . . Sean Francis (Planning Commision Member and Shawn Nelson’s campaign manager) having breakfast with Mayor Clesceri every Monday morning to tell him how to run the city. Francis and his best buddy, FPOA boss John Cross, joining Shawn Nelson and Clesceri for late night scotch and cigar sessions at the Red Cloud. Chris Norby supporting the FPOA contract. Shawn Nelson seeking and receiving the FPOA endorsement. Leeland Wilson tagging along.

Yes, that was 2004. And Sharon Quirk-Silva rose above these good ol’ boys, fortunately.

          1. Yes, Len, I remember that, too. And didn’t some of those neocons get Redevelopment bucks for their SOCO drinking establishments? Grant money? Or low interest loans? Nice paved streets, sidewalks, and lighting for The Continental. Exclusive use of a public parking lot for valet services at The Slidebar. And that $200,000 redbrick sidewalk to no where in the middle of SOCO.

And many of these very same SOCO business owners are now opposed to Redevelopment. Hmmm? A real 360 degree turn.

Ironic how, back then, FPOA President John Cross was buddy-buddy with most of them, too.

            1. The Continental got no subsidy. The stupid sidewalks and arches were all dumbass City Hall ideas by redevelopment bureaucrats looking for make-work projects.

If Nelson ever got the FPOA endorsement it just goes to show that at least one politican took it and gave no freebies back in return.

              1. cg :
Too Late, the people voted YES. Don’t you just hate the residents?

Did Nelson as a sitting Council Member vote on the police contract approval in 2004-05?

The Continental’s business improved greatly when the Redevelopment Agency build a “public” parking lot right next to the new Heroes, two doors down. The Continental also was permitted by the city to impede the flow of traffic with its valet parking tent in front of its doorway.

My hard-earned tax money paid for that parking lot and that newly paved street. And I don’t even have the privilege of parking overnight on the street in front of my own home, much less run a valet parking operation.

    2. You should see a dermatologist. Possibly also and exorcist.

People in government love her in Sacramento. She’s already a star of the entering class. Go on fooling yourselves, though!

  6. Appropriate descriptors/adjectives for Sharon quirk Silva: average, medium, predictable, unremarkable, bland,. And this person I will represent the public’s interests?how will Sharon respond to popular opinion when it is unethical or detrimental to her constituents? Is Sharon quirk Silva morally capable of standing up to greed or will she succumb to bribes popularly known as lobbyists?

        1. I’m not the malcontent who is continuously whining about what others are doing in public service.

            1. Because you, like most FFFF posters, are continuosly clucking that the sky is falling. Last time I checked, it’s still way, way up there and not moving anywhere.

                1. “socialist democrats from top to bottom may claim victory with their policies that seemingly have breathed life into the housing market and have set the stock market sparkling again. Yet, this sign of a recovering economy only is caused by Obamafeds printing money and artificially suppressing interst rates. the Obamafeds push the banks to lend pretend money and as Ron Paul predicted last month after the latest quantitative easing , the housing market is heating itself up again into another economic bubble. the stock sparkles only due to specualtion with more pretend money.”

The above passage presents a “The sky is going to fall” response to present signs of economic recovery.

While one might breath a sign of relief that the economy has improved, your response not only predicts doom for the future but also suggests we all now should act to dismantle our government based on factors that haven’t happened yet.

                  Franz Kafka lives!

                2. “give an example that conjures the image the ‘sky is falling’?”………….. Hmmmmmmm

It is not “sky is falling”, it is cooking a frog conjure.

The boiling frog story is a widespread anecdote describing a frog slowly being boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death.

It took about 40 years for Eastern Europe to jump out of the Soviet boiling block and now they are cooking the EU frog denovo.

                  People never learn.

    1. “Sharon will become a good ol girl!!”…….. Hmmmmm

As long as the California congers has Dem. Supper Majority it does not matter because there is no need for a coalition against the Rep.

However, because of that you may see the exact opposite — the independent Sharon making a name for herself.

Wasn’t she the first council member to condemn the fatal beating of Kelly Thomas?

      1. “Wasn’t she the first council member to condemn the fatal beating of Kelly Thomas?”

I believe she came out to request then POS Sellers to step down, just one time and that was IT…Not much to write home about Stanley.

        1. But wasn’t she the first?…. Sorry I am Santaanao

Perhaps no one flowed immediately in support?

I am not democrat and I am not promoting her but I like to be fair.

Anyway, the California is overrun by the Democratic Bolsheviks so who cares.

FYI: The Bolshevik in the Russian means the majority.

        1. “I suggest that you freshen up on the PRINCE by Machiavelli before you make such a simplistic statement.”

It sounds simplistic, but it is not. Think about that a little before you give advice.

          1. “Think about that a little before you give advice”…….. Hmmmmmm

Actually, I have thought about that a lot before I have gave the advice.

Since you are clueless about modern politics you do not understand that she must be well trusted by her colleges to be able to accomplish something in the congress — you call it “a good ol girl” — very amateurish.

What matters is [not] with whom is she rubbing her shoulders with, but what agenda is she pushing.

You can’t be one man army!.

So unless she is pushing ultra left agenda she is a OK.

  7. “The very last thing they want is a small government advocate like Chris Norby.”

Chris “3 at 50” Norby? Yeah.

And Chris’ wacky sidekick Bruce was on the Chevron gravy train just like everyone else who just got elected to the council, so how does one explain this? Oh and when was the last time he held a private sector job? Just wondering.

    1. Yes Norby gave away the 3@50. It was a huge mistake and he admitted it.

So what’s your point about Chevron?

True, they’ll never support Jane Rands – or Barry Levinson.

      1. My point is that Chevron isn’t supposed to be friendly to supposed small government advocates, so either that’s not true *or he isn’t one*, or it’s all just bullshit*

        * this is correct

        1. Wrong. Approving the Big Project is very much a centrist ideal as indicated by those who suport Chevron across the middle of the spectrum.

The fact that Whitaker and Kiger and Sebourn are also for it make them situational allies.

              1. I listened to the City Council public comments tonight.

Most of the people were legends in their own minds, right-wingers who possess that deadly combination of confidence and complete oblivion.

  8. Late in the election, the polls indicated that Sharon was ahead. The Democratic party responded by putting their money on a winner. The Republican party responded by not betting on Norby.

      1. Fred will begin another election cycle still pig-ignorant.

Here’s the comment I posted in OC Political:

Actually, given the vote margin, it’s likely that many of these contributions came in Quirk-Silva’s campaign too late to make much of a difference — well after most absentee ballots were cast, for example, and too late for new initiatives as opposed to just adding numbers to existing plans.

Speaking only for myself and not the state or local party, Nick Anas’s statement is exactly right. The DPOC established three priorities this year and concentrated its resources there. The reason you saw “Same-Day, Same-Dollar” contributions from DPOC is that we wanted to get money to her campaign (and the Irvine and Costa Mesa ones) as soon as we had it in hand — no matter who had donated it. There’s nothing sinister about that. (In other words, at least the “From Disney” part of your headline is bogus. Make it “From DPOC,” thanks.)

Here’s the actual story: After people down here (especially but not solely with the Quirk-Silva campaign) had been banging every drum since February to tell the party that we had the real deal down here — a gifted candidate that we believed could win. (Was all of this a secret? No — I wrote about it openly right after the primary, when Sharon had been counted out by many. http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2012/06/ad-65-fullerton-versus-south-of-the-freeways/.) We knew that we had a potential winner — one who could, improbably, deliver a Democratic Assembly majority. They FINALLY did their own polling and found out that we were right. Norby, in contrast, was not beloved by his caucus and despite his efforts he couldn’t raise that late money. (One problem with trouncing someone in a meaningless primary is that people presume that you don’t need it.)

That good fortune didn’t just happen — getting into the position of being poised to benefit was the result of extremely hard work by Sharon, her husband Jesus, and many others inside and out of the campaign. (Let me claim a little credit for the Democrats of North Orange County club, which along with Jay Chen’s campaign rented the Fullerton HQ from which many people worked on behalf of Sharon and others, myself included, in a truly and properly coordinated campaign.) The voter registration drives that tipped many cities either blue or almost blue are an indication of how hard people worked. Lots of people cooperated — Loretta Sanchez was a prime mover, of course, but even beyond her Sharon has built up a lot of good will with many people over time.

Once the late polling showed that Sharon was where she needed to be, it was (obviously) a major topic of statewide discussion. People up and down the state knew — without having to give others directions — that this was one of the places that their money could help. (SD-31, SD-5, and some others were in a similar category.) When that happens, people send money where it will help. It’s not a matter of earmarking — it’s a matter of people realizing that if you have money there at the end, both any donor and any county committee are going to know that it needs to go to competitive races, just like they know that it needs to go to Democrats.

My sense is that which committees would receive donations depends on donors judgments about the good sense and judgment of the people in charge of those committees — something developed from personal meetings at conventions and from documented track records. Knowing where to direct late money, precisely because it can’t be coordinated, is an art. It involves a lot of study of public “late contribution” reports, checking published polls, and then some blind — and hopefully lucky — guesses.

So “How AD-65 Really Was Won” was not a story of late contributions. It was a story of having a superior candidate who put together a strong operation, uniting the disparate parts of the party, including gobs of active volunteers. The contributions from the final 18 days surely helped, but given a 4-point margin of victory they weren’t likely decisive. Her opponent, by contrast, made some questionable choices — do any of you want to defend this mailer? http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2012/11/dedicated-husband-chris-norby-puts-out-the-most-shameful-mailer-of-the-year/ — and was apparently overconfident that “he wouldn’t get beaten by a girl.”

And he wasn’t — he was beaten by a smart, hard-working, well-liked woman — and a party unified behind her.

What I find strange is that FFFF did so little to attack Sharon until it was too late — and then did it really poorly. It’s like the site was distracted by something. Heh-heh.

        1. Greg, first you claim sharon QS won because she is gifted without backing up with any examples how she is a gifted politician, leader and so on.
then you claim Sharon Qs won due to her lackluster political opponent, Norby. You can have it both ways, but it requires a long stretch to get there.
I agree with the latter, sharon QS won due to Norby was a weak candidate with an agenda that offered no one insight or epiphany into a better way to govern with less government, especially when most of the dwindling middle class, who do vote, only may claim this middle class status due to their public sector jobs.
What voting swath will vote for its extinction if a viable alternative is not offered in its stead?
socialist democrats from top to bottom may claim victory with their policies that seemingly have breathed life into the housing market and have set the stock market sparkling again. Yet, this sign of a recovering economy only is caused by Obamafeds printing money and artificially suppressing interst rates. the Obamafeds push the banks to lend pretend money and as Ron Paul predicted last month after the latest quantitative easing , the housing market is heating itself up again into another economic bubble. the stock sparkles only due to specualtion with more pretend money.
I may eat my words, but four years from now the likes of Quirk Silva and Norby will be regarded as old school fools who must be voted out of office

        2. Quirk is a candidate the big corporations feel comfy with.

See, I said it. And it only took ten words, Gasbag.

        3. To support this idiot Golem, Vern Nelson aka Gröfaz, and the Orange Juice Blog’s pro Obama Bolshevist pro union crapola is anti American and soon you will feel it in the quality of your lifestyle……. Enjoy.

If I have already said that, I am reiterating #3

    1. Yes, Happy Birthday, Chris. You’re 63, you have three government pensions, and I’m sure you’re set for life as a former public employee.

  9. The Republican’s failed in district 65, they figured it was an easy win for Norby. But it looks like I was right AGAIN!! #SQS2012

    1. If the Orange County Voter’s registrar were to do an audit where they random sampled the voter’s who registered for the first time and did so online, I’m sure that they would find that the fraudulent registered new voters would overwhelmingly be Democrats that voted for Sharon Quirk Silva and Greg Diamond.

Why else would that many people vote for someone like Greg Diamond whose personality loves to alienates people and whose measage reasonates like a tin pie pan?

      1. Great hypothetical, Anonymous. I love them. And if the Orange County Voter’s registrar were to do an audit of all the deceased who voted for the last time, I’m sure they would find that these fraudulent voters went to The Walking Dead candidates Norby and Kiger.

      2. I guess they hated you guys more. Or you’re just wrong.

I don’t “love to alienate people”; I love to take on bullying and idiocy. For some people, that’s alienating. Meanwhile, I got 45% of the vote in my district (winning the LA County portion), so if that sounds like tin it’s still music to my ears.

        1. How’s your legal practice doing Greg?
Just wondering as I’ve only seen you about 20 times within the past year wearing the same damn short sleeved shirt.
          What up wit dat?

          1. Just defended a nice deposition today, propounding two more next week, and four new clients lined up since the election.

Isn’t it just awful that I have no boss? Except in court or on a political dais, I can usually dress however I want!

(P.S. I don’t believe you. I have lots of different short sleeve shirts.)

                1. “You don’t know”……….. Hmmmm

Do you mean “You don’t know” or “You don’t recall”

Did you explain to the witness that there is a difference between “I don’t know” and “I don’t recall” answers.

FYI: If the witness doesn’t recall something at the time of his deposition, he can always remember by trial.

  10. the portrait gallery of just a few meaningful Americans: Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Phyllis Wheatley, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Martin Luther King, Condoleeza Rice.
why is it more feasible to lump Quirk-Silva’s portrait in with the likes of Pam Keller than it is with the movers and shakers who have gone before her?
Read any of Condoleeza Rice’s essays on American politics, especially when it relates to foreign policy, and the reader will quickly define quality and mediocrity

    1. Oh, yes! Chris Norby, from the Sons of Norway, would be there on the wall right between Martin Luther King and Condoleeza Rice.

And Trivis Kiger would be somewhere between Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin (He uses Jeffersonian hair gel and wears Franklinesque glasses).

Bruce Whitaker wouldn’t fit between any two until achieving at least 6 months of Weight Watchers success.

          1. gosh, Greg so not typical of you. Usually you avoid juvenile retorts. I’ve always respected you attacking what people say or do not ad hominems.

            1. Dammit! You appealed to my better nature. All right, I apologize and ask your forgiveness.

(In my defense, it’s really hard to keep track of who here is well-behaved. There should be a roster or something.)

    1. Run for City Council, then. Urge Bushala to run. Or Chris Thompson. Or any other FFFF board member.

Rather than complaining endlessly, draw papers, put a campaign together, and get yourself elected.

The founding FFFFers would provide interesting alternatives to the status quo.

  11. Politicians are modern day wolves, in your families pockets, eating through all your futures, for spiteful, and now violent selfish greed with great sickening joy!

  12. Good post. I love it how the unionistas are always comparing business corporation owned by private shareholders to public governments. Sad, really. You would really have to be stupid to see an analogy. But they sure keep trying.

    1. Bad post. I love in how the corporatistas claim that public sector employees are doing so much better than private sector employees at a time when free enterprise failed big time and, thus, created an economic depression.

Why didn’t you make your comparisons during the Clinton 90s when the economy was booming and the private sector was living large?

      1. Free enterprise has not failed big time. The people have failed big time in keeping our government on a short leash. Big government in abdicating its true functions have given the free enterprise system a sulfuric acid enema with its treasonous trade policies, tax codes, patent sell outs and foreign policy. They are just using the unions to balkanize what is left of the middle class as it slides into extinction.

      2. except for those impacted by clinton’s welfare reform, Clinton did kick people off of welfare, sadly he also kicked to the curb the glass-steagle(?) act that led to the great recession 2008 that many have not recovered from this recession’s devastating effect upon their lives.

      3. Typical. Get off your taxpayer funded ass and actually produce something. Then we’ll take you seriously, leech.

  13. An interesting side story lives in the families of the children of her former class.

She has been largely absent from the class since Labor Day.

    “What about the kids Sharron”?

    1. Check out the latest edition of the “Fullerton Observer.” You’ll see a photo of her with her students. She’s their role model and hero. All of the school’s families have worked on her behalf and take enormous pride in her achievement. She attended that very school 35 years ago as a child, as did her brothers and sisters.

(Incidentally, the name Sharon is spelled with one “r.” Maybe you should join her students’ class, “Tonny.”)

      1. Relax, Tre, just repeating what a PTA mom told my wife. They felt “Burned”. Settle down.

And I am surprised that several hundred families worked for her. That must be why she won.

If it’s in the Observer it must be true right.

          1. I hate Sharon, she’s a liar…..Talks out of the side of her face. The only reason she got where she is, she does under the desk duty…..

            1. SHARON QUIRK-SILVA WON!

              JAN FLORY WON!

              DOUG CHAFFEE WON!

(Chris Norby was beaten. Travis Kiger was beaten.)

            2. Twice in one column you accuse her baselessly of getting ahead through oral sex. You’re a credit to your gender, you are — a true feminist icon.

            3. Kiger and Whitaker often cross dressed, then performed burlesque for their master and financier. That’s the only reason they got to where they are . . . or aren’t in Kiger’s case now.

    1. As does Fullerton’s Santa Fe “Shining Time Station” area, which was the source of a mega-bucks for the failed Recall Movement.

      1. No winners here in Fullerton. The residents are the loosers. They all made it quite clear, that they only support the public employees. And that came straight out of Flory’s mouth. So you must be a public employee…

            1. They won’t have a Council member who believes that drunk drivers have a right to privacy and that bloggers have a right to freedom of hate speech.

              1. And they won’t have a Council member whose first priority was to enhance his friend’s TNT fireworks sales.

              2. So, your council members will help close down 50+ bars in Fullerton? I am for that. You need to go to DTF on Friday and Saturday night. If they close down the bars, we will need less FPD’s, and I’m for that too. So I guess you think you won. There will always be drunk drivers, sorry to say, but the Fullerton Council, will have no impact on the bars. Can you say “Fullerton will be bankrupt”. Do you want the bars to close, I do.

                1. Close down 50+ bars in Fullerton? Absolutely not! I grew up in a town of 30,000 that had twice the number of bars that Fullerton has. We didn’t have any drunk and disorderly problems. Why? 1. The patrons knew how to drink, and 2. If they didn’t the bartenders cut them off.

It’s the individuals responsibility to drink responsibly. If they don’t, then it’s the bars responsibility to stop serving them.

Unfortunately, neither seems to be happening in DTF. The kids want to boogie until they puke, and if a bar kicks them out, all they have to do is walk into the bar nextdoor.

    1. They moved it to City Hall in Los Angeles. The Amtrak Surf Liner leaves Shining Time Station in 30 minutes. Better hurry.

    2. it was very short – 9 speakers (?) and then on to Consent Calendar

Only members present at the beginning of the meeting were Whitaker, Sebourne and Chaffee

      1. They were the only elected officials there until the election was certified; Flory and Fitz were waiting in the front row at the left. Kiger could have been there; SQS too, but didn’t for obvious reasons. 10 speakers, election certification, choose Mayor and Vice (Whitaker and Chaffee — all done unanimously in a very classy way), & fiesta. Marlena and Christine were there and spoke well; Hakim talked about slapping Hughes’s face, but did not try. which is a good thing.

        1. To support this idiot Golem, Vern Nelson aka Gröfaz, and the Orange Juice Blog’s pro Obama Bolshevist pro union crapola is anti American and soon you will feel it in the quality of your lifestyle……. Enjoy.

If I have already said that, I am reiterating #2

          1. Libertarian leaning Gov. Scotty Walker of Wisconsin tried union busting. The result? His legislation was reversed, and Wisconsin went to Obama in the Electoral College. (Paul Ryan’s home state didn’t want him as VP.)

The gov. of Ohio put union busting to vote (police, fire, and teachers). The result? His measure was defeated by Ohio voters, and key state Ohio went to Obama in the Electoral College.

Automaking Michigan. Romney’s own home state rejected his anti-union stand. Michigan goes to Obama in the Electoral College.

Colorado, Florida, Minnesota . . . the list goes on.

Thank you, Liberty Party and Tea Party. Nothing helped the Dems more in 2012 than your crazed rants and demonstrations.

            1. “Thank you, Liberty Party and Tea Party. Nothing helped the Dems more in 2012 than your crazed rants and demonstrations”………. Hmmmmm

              I agree!

              But help where?

Because the democrats and Obama can’t deliver on their promises and to satisfy peoples fantasies, there will be major outcry next election and based on misery index the democrats will be finished for at least one generation.

In 1948 when the communist won landslide in old Czechoslovakia the people were dancing and kissing in the streets……. and we know the rest of story.

Enjoy your sweet victory — it will be short.

              1. <blockquote cite="#commentbody-141958Because the democrats and Obama can’t deliver on their promises and to satisfy peoples fantasies, there will be major outcry next election and based on misery index the democrats will be finished for at least one generation.

“The sky is going to fall.”…….. Hmmmmm

It is historically proven that it always does fall when the liberal left takes over.

The only known prospering socialism were German National Socialism and Chines National Socialism.

China started in 1970 from a dirt and today has 1,000,000 milliners. In same time USA got back to the dirt.

                  So here you have it.

However, I wonder why there is the history taught in the schools if no one pays attention to its repetition.

        2. Wrong about Hakim; he asked Hughes if Hughes would like to slap HIM in the face. (Sorry council, but you stand corrected)

  14. is screwed. Can any of you say “BANKRUPTED” 3 times without slurring your words? Absolutely not. After all, we live in Fullerton, Bar Capital of the OC!

  15. Fullerton, Ca – The City of Fullerton’s annual New Year Eve’s Celebration, “First Night!” will not take place this year, ending a 20 year tradition, due to budget constraints brought on by the State’s decision to dissolve Redevelopment Agencies. “First Night Fullerton” was an alcohol-free, family oriented New Year’s Eve party featuring live entertainment, children’s activities and fireworks. Funding for “First Night” became unfeasible when the City’s “Redevelopment Agency” was dissolved earlier this year.

“We are saddened that this long time tradition has come to an end, at least temporarily” commented Joe Felz, Fullerton’s City Manager. “But unfortunately, given the loss of Redevelopment funding, the ability to produce this community event simply was no longer an option. The loss of Redevelopment funding has created a complex transition for cities across the State, however, Fullerton is nearing the completion of the process, and the City Council always has the opportunity to determine what programs and projects to offer in the years ahead.”

    http://www.ci.fullerton.ca.us/civica/press/display.asp?layout=1&Entry=2755

    1. All I ever saw there at First Night was a boatload of FPD officers walking around downtown policing an alcohol-free event while the drunks in the downtown bars drove off drunk into the night without fear of being pulled over.

Maybe this year the FPD will actually utilize this holiday overtime to pull a few drunk drivers off of the road?

        1. Hey Anonymous-hole. You’re the idiot! FL stated there were a boatload of FPD officers walking around downtown policing an alcohol-free event while the drunks in the downtown bars drove off drunk into the night without fear of being pulled over.
That means there were no officers available to attend to the drunk and unruly, ya know, like some of FPD themselves, because they were all policing the alcohol-free event. Comprendo?

          1. You are both idiots, Pears ASSHOLE. There are always police at public events, not the whole department. Are you so stupid to think every cop in Fullerton would work a downtown event? Yep you probably are.

          2. Your summarization is spot on Pears!

I do understand the need for a few officers at the alcohol-free event as well, however I would’ve estimated that there were close to 50 officers standing each New Year’s Eve making sure that the alcohol consumption stays in the bars and not on the streets.

I honestly don’t begrudge, and actually respect the officers getting holiday or overtime pay on a night that’s traditionally known for excessive alcohol consumption, however I do think that their focus should be on patrolling the streets in a patrol car, rather than on foot.

Just didn’t seem like the best use of our resources.

        2. There’s no need to get rude. Am I an “idoit” just because I can’t figure out how to use my droid.

    2. Ironic that the city runs an alcohol-free event on the holiday most associated with alcohol and intoxication in one of the county’s hip drinking areas for younger adults. Seems counter intuitive to me??

    3. That’s really sad. It’s a great tradition.

See, Whitaker takes over as Mayor and the VERY NEXT DAY … (I jest, I jest!)

  16. I love reading the comments about Sharon getting sworn in as a legislator.

It wasn’t that long ago those on this board were all giddy with how bad Norby had beat her in the primary and the general election was a formality. Especially given those same commenters believed she was stupid or inept or just plain dumb compared to Norby.

Says a lot about Norby that he got beat by someone that was believed to be his inferior.

      1. Meaning what? That Norby has less personality or less priniciples?

This statement (like much of the writing on this blog) makes no sense.

    1. Typical WASP thinking.

When blacks or hispanics win, it’s because they have some kind of racial advantage.

When Jews or Asians win, it’s because they have some kind of ethnic advantage.

But when White Anglo-Saxon Protestants win, it’s because they, and they alone, have a special work ethic. (“We won because we worked harder!)

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva beat Norby, not because of her hyphenated last name and not because of her race or gender.

SHE WON BECAUSE SHE WORKED HARDER THAN NORBY.

      1. RE:

SHE WON BECAUSE SHE WORKED HARDER THAN NORBY.

        So she’s a WASP?

        1. No, but she worked much harder than the one to whom she delivered a good old, fashioned beatdown.

          (Norby. The loser.)

  17. Meaning that Norby was instrumental in bringing an end to the free-for-all of taxpayers money that was occurring for years through the respective cities redevelopment agencies.

Various corporate interests like Disney and AEG, the corporation who redeveloped most of downtown LA and the Staples Center, all did their level best to politically eliminate legislators like Norby from ever biting them in their fat corporate wallets again.

  18. Rich Doctor’s Wife :

And for now so does the US dollar. How long do you think the world is going to continue to accept the fiat currency that is being debased into oblivion? The relatively anemic growth in spite of all the stops being pulled out with the endless money supply expansion expansion is very telling. The sky is not falling. It already has. You just cant see it yet because you can still get a sack of beans for a couple of Jacksons. In the rest of the world it costs a sack of rice. Better start plantin’ pal-before the water rates go into orbit to pay off those pensions.

    1. More doom and gloom. I’ve only been hearing this from conservatives since Eisenhower rand against Stevenson.

If water rates go up, it will have nothing to do with pensions.

      1. OK-Lets see- we had a gold backed currency back then, high agricultural production, off the charts factory output, budget surpluses, interest rates that made sense and a populace with a different work ethic. Invert the whole thing and extrapolate how long till the chickens come home to roost. I don’t know a single economist with a working brain that doesn’t claim that we are in uncharted territory.

        1. We had all that and a top marginal tax rate over 90%.

And there were conservatives all running around like chicken little claiming doom and gloom.

          1. You could still drive a semi through the loopholes in the tax code back then and a whole fleet through today. The bygone days are light years away from our current demise. No one wants to give where it hurts and we are all in for it. We are poised to revisit 1980’s Argentina.

            1. Regardless. Even with the policies you believe are far superior to those in place today, conservatives were claiming doom and gloom.

Please try to stay on topic.

      2. “If water rates go up, it will have nothing to do with pensions.”

Not any more, jerkoff. And you thank Travis Kiger for that.

  19. Today I bought a house for a million dollatprs and a new car for 100,000 dollars. I did this by writing $2,000,000 on a piece of paper and the bank honored it, just as it honors the millions of electronic money the feds send it. Its gotta be good or else I wouldn’t have printed it

    1. That far-fetched scenario will never happen in Fullerton.

We’re all getting water tax rebates!!!! Yipee!! $40 per home owner!

Of course, when the expense of distributing our rebates is factored in, it will probably be only about $28, or so. But still, that’s the equivalent of three happy hour martinis in SOCO (including a $2 tip)!!!

      1. just for being ornery, doctor’s trophy wife, I will support socializing/nationalizing medicine

      2. “far fetched scenario never reach Fullerton.” Of course a nationally ravaged economy will never permeate the economy of Fullerton. Like you, the community of Fullerton lives within an impermeable to economic recession/depression box .

        1. van get it, get a grip on it.

America’s economy is #1 in the world and has been for several decades now (15 trillion DNP). China is #2 (10 trillion DNP). The eight countries that follow on the “Top 10” list each have a DNP of 4 trillion or less. No real threat to world dominance.)

On Forbes Magazine’s current list of the “10 Most Economically Powerful Cities in the World,” four are American cities (New York, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, DC . . . all blue cities, btw),

If California (blue state) were on a list of biggest economies in the world, it would be the 8th when compared to that of other countries! not states.

How you or anyone else can get a “nationally ravaged economy” based on these FACTS is beyond logic.

Remember, Fear + Big Lies = Propoganda.

Libertarians have not only taken it hook, line, and sinker, but now they’re the ones fishing by using the same bait and techniques.

          1. The economy is in a depression. We have tens of millions in electronic soup kitchen lines. Real unemployment is 25% . The only thing keeping the curtain drawn on it all is the fact that the US doesn’t need to produce goods and services in exchange for goods and services because the US has the monopoly on the monopoly money. The Fed can print money out of thin air racking up endless debt but nonetheless ,based on perceived intrinsic value, the dollar is still accepted as legal tender all over the world because it is the world reserve currency. This is coming to an end by design within the next 10 years and maybe even sooner. When it does it will cost a sack of beans for a sack of rice. Look around. What does this country produce anymore? Barring the Nation’s agribusinesses which are HIGHLY SUBSIDIZED by the government with monopoly money, we are a nation of middlemen with a predominately service economy. The race to the bottom has begun with outsourcing even the service sector overseas or importing low wage H-1B visa workers. Propaganda is the opposite of reality. Truth is stranger than fiction and the CTA and the public schools have done their job. Denial will finish the job if people keep their heads glued to the idiot box every night and drink the fluoridated kool aid.

            1. “This is coming to an end by design within the next 10 years and maybe even sooner.”

You can foresee 10 years into the future! Do you do this by reading your crystal ball? Or do you just read tarot cards?

              1. Do you ever read Foreign Affairs? Almost all US leaders in key positions are CFR members. Do you know who the World Bank is? Do you think what they say may have some relevance? It might help you see the big picture. Do you understand the difference between and Federal Reserve Note and a United States Note. Do you know what a greenback was? Do you understand what the Wizard of Oz was trying to warn its contemporaries of? Tarot cards and crystal balls are for the lazy pagans. The fluoride in your kool aid can be removed with a decent reverse osmosis system or you can move to Anaheim as that municipality’s tap is top notch. I would suggest opening your eyes especially if you have a family. Look at the 50 year old transformers on the sagging power lines, the brittle water mains. There isn’t a damn thing to eat growing anywhere for hundreds miles with millions of people corralled into the city depending on funny money to eat drink and be merry. When they want to devalue they will devalue and you can eat your pizza box for breakfast lunch and dinner or like in 1980’s Argentina, soup for breakfast lunch and dinner and dream about what you threw away at a trip to Outback Steakhouse back in the good old days. You think I like what is happening? It is not funny. There is a bitchin’ Sky Lounge at the Statosphere in Vegas with hot chicks, cheap drinks, and killer food. Live out your denial and ride it out there and bring all of your friends. Every night is ladies night.

                1. Thanks for the tip on the Vegas limelight, but I guess I’d better stock up on guns and ammo and move up to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

You didn’t mention the global warming theory. We’ll probably all roast to death before our currency becomes Postit notes.

          2. IIts not the DNP, its the GDP that is being devoured by a fed gov’t. just as the prior republican prez adm. did with its continuation of too numerous to count entitlement programs , wars and foreign aid. Bushbama-tics has not changed this fact; our governemt at all levels spend more in revenue than they take in from the tax pyaers. Add to this scenario, the only persons left standing in the middle class, the backbone of government, are those fortunate to find jobs in the public sector. The snake eating its tail is the economic image I am left with when I read about wars without end, fifth generation welfare recipients, increasing number of people on unemployment and those paying taxes are the ones who are paid with tax dollars.
I’m not peddling propaganda, I’m not personally vested in any political person supported or disparaged on this blog.
I am concerened about the health of our nation when people vote in persons to political office because he or she believes this politician will solve their personal economic woes. And that includes pubic union sectors or persons who may personally profit from a politician’s favoritism

            1. The rankings for DNP and GNP are identical: USA, China, Japan, and Germany on the top of both lists in that order. And we’re way ahead of our nearest competitors.

America is the richest country in the history of the world and also has some of the lowest tax rates of other comparable countries in the world.

“The fiscal cliff” and the “eminent danger of economic collapse” big lies have been promoted by those in govenment who have been put in place to protect the tax-dodging filthy rich.

They’re the worst politicians money can buy. While claiming to fight for lower middle class tax rates (nickels and dimes), they snake oil in much greater reductions for the filthy rich (major big bucks).

GNP and DNP strength doesn’t necessarily excuse the government from getting out of debt. A balanced budget would be nice.

Certainly, the federal government’s military and welfare expenses could be trimmed. However, this will only help if the tax-dodgers are held as accountible as the middle class when it come to paying their fair share of support for Uncle Sam.

              1. Total US debt exceeds world GDP and that doesn’t even include our derivative exposure that requires a super cray to even fathom. The false dichotomy of democrat and republican is a joke. Both parties have left this country a bankrupt house of cards. Most of the wealth commonly referred to as wealth is nothing more than debt based zeros on balance sheets. Real wealth in the US is already being seized such as its people (chattell slaves), its infrastructure (currently undergoing privatization to pay off DEBT), its land (already confiscated by Fannie Mae’s buying up all of the mortgages and taxation) and its natural resources (already being locked down under Agenda 21) Class warfare is mere balkanization and a diversion to the real undercurrent sending us down the river.

      1. FACTS:
        Sharon Quirk-Silva won.

        Quirk-Silva beat FFFF Norby.

        Flory beat FFFF Kiger.

        Fitzgeral won.

        Chaffee won.

        Seaborn is buckling.

Whitaker is all dressed up with no place to go.

  20. The sky is not falling. Dollars are being printed (or electronically created) to stack up to meet the “sky”. Sky, in this analogy, is truely the limit.

Does anyone wish to explain to me what a dollar is?

    1. Sure it is the current unit of currency issued by a private central bank called the Federal Reserve. It is known as a Federal Reserve Note as opposed to the Constitutional United States Note that brought Kennedy a shellfish toxin dart to the throat for printing. A dollar comes into existence only by a debt being created ensuring the inevitable ongoing debasement. The Federal Reserve Bank creates a dollar by printing a debt instrument in exchange for a dollar of debt owed by the US Government and is then loaned at interest again to the banks which is then loaned at interest to the citizens who loan it at interest to each other. When the creature from Jekyll Island was unleashed so was the IRS. Taxes service the debt which is impossible to repay and thus ultimately will lead the Nation into receivership which will end in total slavery. We are already in the beginning stages of the indentured servitude but with the diet, injections and injunctions, we are kept at bay with the 300 channels of HD blue glow, cheap hot pockets and microwave ovens. The dollar has been the world reserve currency since 1944 and this combined with the US having all of the un-bombed factories after WW II gave the US the leading edge on all angles of enterprise, technology and finance for decades. We are just barely hanging onto riding the coattails of the phenomenon today in our society. Its declining role as THE world reserve currency is on track to be eclipsed by either the Amero or a Russian-Chinese gold backed currency over the next 10 years. The dollar has become the god of mammon or the demon of avarice. Its printed form is rich in occult symbolism hidden in plain view. It has become a very austere master and its worshipers the most decadent of followers. That is why it is called the “almighty dollar”.

      1. “We are just barely hanging onto riding the coattails of the phenomenon today in our society. Its declining role as THE world reserve currency is on track to be eclipsed by either the Amero or a Russian-Chinese gold backed currency over the next 10 years.”

So based upon what hasn’t happened yet, the future, we should rise up and revolt?

We should all fear that something really terrible is definitely going to happen 10 years from now and react by launching “really pre-preemptive” attacks against Russia and China?

I usually tell people who suggest such nonsense to perhaps move to Idaho and join a milita. In this case, however, I’d have to recommend you move to a different solar system because you’re definitely not connected to planet Earth.

    2. is it like art? is it like a bowl of ice cream where some people prefer chocolate or strawberry flavor? Is a dollar like art sooooo subjective?
is it a genetic trait to dodge the over your head topic with tangential questions?

      1. I’ll take your answer as it was given, Van. Good answers, thruthseeker, although I was looking for the explanation given by the basic economics teacher when he holds up a dollar bill and asks, “what is this”?

The classic answer is that it is a piece of paper (increasingly an electronic equivalent) that represents a mutualy recognized holder of value. Another way of looking at it is that it is the accumulated value of all land, improvements, AND PPROMISED FUTURE LABOR of a soveirgn entity devided by the number of units of common exchange. It is the promised future labor part that I believe you refer to as slavery.

Sky Lounge, I hope that you are young and learning and not just an old fool. Ten years is a very short time when retirements are proposed to be comfortable for thirty years. Some of us older guys who have studied basic economics have seen many bubbles burst. In fact, predicting what will happen in 10 years is the foundation of investment. I’ve at least partially predicted five long term trends to hold on to my plebian middle class wealth. If my sixth works I may be able to afford eight years of retirement.

In my neighborhood, we have witnessed many people go over their own personal fiscal cliff and many of my neighbors are facing theirs. I am too close to the edge myself.

Far from the nation exagerating the fiscal cliff, they are admitting now the severity of the situation as it existed in 1989 and the cliff they are talking about
now is only one-enth of the real cliff we face.

True, we have all of the resources we need to survie and prosper. Then again, the resources we have today are similar to those we had in 2006. The resources the nation had in 1926 were similar to the resources the nation had in 1933. Resources are not enough. History has shown again and again that an econlomy needs a stable and reliable method of value storage and exchange to continue to trade those resources and put them to work for continued prosperity.

This is where there is a great deal of justified doubt.

        1. “Some of us older guys who have studied basic economics have seen many bubbles burst.”

Then you must have also seen many bubbles grow.

“In fact, predicting what will happen in 10 years is the foundation of investment. I’ve at least partially predicted five long term trends to hold on to my plebian middle class wealth.”

You’ve been able to only partially predict a handful of long term trends that indeed happened 10 years later. This “foundation” building, then, sounds like haphazard construction. Unless, of course, some other very favorable economic conditions materialized unpredictably. And you seized the opportunity. This happens, too.

The Edsel and the Corvair were supposed to be the cars of the future. The other prediction was that no American in his right mind would ever buy a Japanese car.

  21. Just another political whore who will end up turning votes for money.

All of them should wear short-shorts and cleavage exposing halter tops when presenting themselves at the State capital.

Might as well dress the part too.

  22. Great idea, Pittbull. I’d love to see Bruce Whitaker in short-shorts and a cleavage exposing halter top when presenting himself to Den Master Tony.

  23. Greg Diamond :
You’re right. Dan kept a straight face, though. Hard to do, I’ll bet.

I guess you are a REAL Dan Hughes fan aren’t you?
When you’re in a high ranking law enforcement position like his, part of the qualifying criteria is you must look and convey a friendly demeanor, be a good bullshitter and have a good poker face. Dan has had a great deal of practice this past year as many, including myself, have gone up to the podium during public comments and called ‘foul’ on him and some of the shenanigans going on at FPD. I did notice him last year looking uncomfortable and a bit uptight when I spoke about the Barry Coffman (your other buddy) writing ticky-tac horn honking citations, then thanking Dan for dismissing them. He looked uncomfortable because HE (Dan) was ‘in’ on the whole thing.

    1. I have no personal ax to grind with Mr. Greg Diamond, BUT from here behind the keyboard, I find it laughable his STRONG comments about Silva and Hughes.

The politics you spew Mr.Diamond tell me YOU would be the last one I wold come see on ANY labor or employement issues.

I noticed you didn’t have much to say on the Benjamin Lira thread “EXCEPT” to suggest he should NOT be talking against his lawyers advise.

WOW that’s all you can say about ALL that?

Forrest Gump and Helen Keller could figure out pretty easy what Silva DID NOT due in the first weeks of the Kelly Thomas matter.

YOU want to tell us how Silva is an awesome, grab the bull by the horns POLITICIAN? Okay, PLEASE don’t make me fall asleep with your rendition of BITCHEN.

The issues with Hughes are compelling.

But when I read some of your comments on HOW COOL both seem to be in your opinion makes me want to throw up.

If you work in the courtroom for your clients like you do the keyboard for Hughes and Silva, GOD help your clients.

A little smoke and mirrors, and hope for the best, LOL!!!

Now before you start in on me on how AWESOME you really are, JUST post a link to some of your better cases you litigated so I can read for myself on how AWESOME you are COUNSELOR!!!

If your impressed with Silva because those up in Sacramento LOVE her, REALLY Mr.Diamond? WOW nice rubber stamp for Sharon.

Most of those up in Sacramento are CROOKS too.

Guess you REALLY like rubbing elbows with folks like that.

Nothing personal Mr.Diamond but JESUS, your unbelievable with what you spew.

        1. I read it. Why would I crawl under a rock?

Why do you (presumably) keep changing your pseudonym, by the way?

      1. Back when most of the 65th Aseembly was part of the old 72nd, there was a guy from the sticks of Yorba Linda who pissed off some GOP powers-that-be; and look where he ended up? Well, that’s besides the point. Ms. QS will probably be a good girl up in Sacto pretty much going with the demo caucus line. She isn’t going to rock any boats. Is isn’t about to have a news conference calling for major public employee pension reform. She won’t have to be in the local Fullerton crap– Kelly who?.

      2. You, like others here, are welcome not to contact me about labor or employment issues. But let me address your concerns, because they suggest common misconceptions about lawyers.

Ben Lira has not sought my counsel, even in consultation. I not only have no obligation to advise him about the particulars of his case, I have an obligation NOT to do so unless I want to invite an attorney-client relationship, which I don’t. He also may have an attorney, who should be responsible for him.

I know that people here will munge this analogy, but what I did there was similar to how I’d deal with a stranger’s small children. Normally, I have no role in parenting them. However, if I see them doing something really dangerous that I can be pretty sure that the parent would dislike — say a pre-schooler wandering into a busy boulevard chasing a ball, I am going to yell at them to stop because as a matter of ethics even if not law I believe owe that degree of care even to strangers.

My telling Lira, in effect, “wouldn’t your lawyer want you to shut up?” was simply a courtesy to his lawyer, a fellow member of the plaintiff’s bar, that I’d extend regardless of my thoughts about the merits of the case.

I think that, if you’ll check, you’ll see that my positive opinion of Sharon does not derive from people in Sacramento liking her — I just think that it’s interesting (and good for our region) that they do. I’m not that much of into elbow-rubbing myself; as a not-very-quiet reformer, I tend to be critical enough of the deficiencies in my party to prevent its benefiting me, which is OK.

Most cases settle (or are abandoned.) Most others (such as the asylum law I practiced in NYC) aren’t recorded and made available; being part of a large firm I was on briefs and such but didn’t make arguments. There’s a great exception, but it’s an appellate asylum case that I don’t think is publicly available.

Generally, if you go to trial in my line of work, it’s because one or the other side massively misunderstood the value of the case. I have a couple moving towards trial, though, and if either makes it to a written decision I’ll let you know.

        Thanks for your opinion, though.

    2. I reserve judgment on Dan Hughes. I found him mostly fair (though I that that one policy decision he made was wrong) in my dealing with him during Occupy Fullerton, I think that his presentation on community policing is hella impressive and just what I like to see in a police force, and I think that he certainly has been crisis-tested and come through well. (Compare that to Mike Sellers.)

Is he truly committed to weeding bad cops out of FPD and effectuating policy changes that make excessive use of force, petty corruption, and such as unlikely as reasonably possible? I don’t know — but he seems like a decent bet. If I had a vote, I’d give him a try.

That FFFF is there to complain about wrongdoing will help — IF FFFF limits its complaints to things that are actually wrong. I hope that FFFF doesn’t continue to squander its watchdog reputation for political gain.

  24. Quirk-Silva beat FFFF Norby. Quirk-Silva beat FFFF Norby. Quirk-Silva beat FFFF Norby.

And Flory beat FFFF Kiger. Flory beat FFFF Kiger. Flory beat FFFF Kiger.

    And Fitzgeral won. Fitzgerald won.

    CHaffee won. Chaffee won.

    Now Seaborn is buckling.

And Whitaker is all dressed up with no place to go.

  25. Word around town is Bruce Whitaker is trying to snag the Clerk-Recorder job, with Shawn Nelson’s support, since Norby’s reach fo the job is flaming out.

What’s with these anti-government conservatives who are afraid to work in the private sector?

How come we never read about this, Kiger losing, Norby losing, Measure W, or any other Fullerton issues on a Fullerton blog?

What are you ass-clowns afraid of?

  26. Guess Greg Diamond got bitch-slapped out of here.
Haven’t seen a comment from him for a while. I miss his non-sense, particularly since he likes to boast about his law degree status.

    1. I’m in the middle of depositions. While I enjoy being here and hanging out with you all, it is secondary to real life matters.

        1. That’s an odd comment.

You’re “done with” me? So before you were done with me, what were you doing with me? And why didn’t anyone tell me? Here I thought that I was the one doing things — like talking to your lurkers.

Which reminds me: hey, FFFF lurkers! Thanks for voting for Sharon!

  27. Anonymous :
You are both idiots, Pears ASSHOLE. There are always police at public events, not the whole department. Are you so stupid to think every cop in Fullerton would work a downtown event? Yep you probably are.

Well Anonymous, you’re the Whole Ass! Only an idiot would spell ‘idiot’ as “idoit”.

    1. What are ethics? Ethics is the question of right verse wrong and then doing what is right. So how do we know if something is right? First, ask yourself the question is it legal? Does what you are about to do violate any laws? Second, is to ask if it is balanced? Meaning, is it fair to all the people who are involved? Finally, ask if it is honorable? Will your decision give you a sense of pride and honor?

Many Americans do die before they break their Oaths that they have taken!

  28. Just to bring all the FFFF crowd and their anonymous supporters back to the topic.

Despite all your claims of her being inept or mentally inferior, she got sworn in last Monday. Norby packed up his things and went home.

          1. Don’t know. Don’t care.

What I do know is that she got sworn into the Assembly last Monday and Norby packed his bags and went home.

Your question wasn’t relevant to the rest of the voters in the district given that she won.

I appreciate your feeble attempt at trying to change the topic. It’s what losers do, when they lose.

            1. I appreciate your blind support for what I believe to be another rubber stamp in Sacramento. Come on OCDem. Can you name one thing she did for Fullerton residents that made life better in our City as a result of her tenure? Can ya think of anything? You don’t know? Neither do I and I figured you would know. Anyone?

              1. TS, are you daft? I already stated my thoughts on your question in an earlier response.

                Feel free to reread.

As far as her being a rubber stamp in Sacramento, you’ll have to address that issue with the electorate that supported her and was the reason she got sworn in last Monday and Norby had to pack his bags and go home.

            2. Dear OCDem – Wow, as a life-long democrat, I think we have a dangerous situation here Calif. Supermajorities make for bad govt. We get closer to a one party state. I’m sure things will turn around, but it will take a few election cycles.

              1. Mary,

That is a very real possibility. We saw the effects of majorities in the legislature and executive branches of government during the Bush Administration. It ended badly for the GOP.

However, I am happy SQS was successful in her election.

              2. “I think we have a dangerous situation here Calif. Supermajorities make for bad govt.”

The sky is falling, the sky is falling. Quick! Tell Goosey Lucy!

      1. Her win was a SLIMEY ONE! that sums up to what politics has turned into.

Government spent 142 Billion dollars for Katrina Disaster, only 39 actually got to the victims, about 25% was defrauded away, maybe even 30%.

142 Billion could probably build 142 really nice skyscrapers. They pissed away enough on one instance to house very very many people.

And people wonder why there is another credit downgrade looming soon for Fullerton and The USA.

        1. “And people wonder why there is another credit downgrade looming soon for Fullerton and The USA.”

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Quick, tell Henny Penny and Turkey Lurky!

The economy FELL HARD and never regained its losses, or grew any of the amount that is always needed (populations grow).

With staggering, historical, and a Socialist type of unemployment, “THE SKY IS AT YOUR FEET FOOL!”
and continuing, inevitable downturns will continue. The future climate is even more important than any, and espescially a bleek present day economy.

            This is America not AMERIKASTAN!

        2. Ha ha ha. A typical response from a sore loser.

She won fair and square and got sworn in. Norby packed his office and is going home.

A potential credit downgrade of the US had nothing to do Quirk-Silva’s election.

          Deal with it.

          1. A credit downgrade of Fullerton didn’t have anything to do with it either. People will fall for anything, apparently. Even a dunderhead like Quirk.

The word is out that she is hiring Keller to work for her. That’s her idea of brainpower!!

            Hahaha!

            1. Which says a lot about the intellect of Norby that he got beat by someone you perceive as a dunderhead.

Nice to know that you reveal yourself as an elitist.

      2. Unbelievable. This officer shot Ceja 5 times and got off. Ramos said, I am going to fuck you up if you dont cooperate and gets 2nd degree muder. Something is not right.

        1. Lesson of this story is always throw a gun near the body.

Gotta love how they only included 2 statements that supported the police officer’s version of events but chose not to include the other statements.

          MMM HMM!

          You aint seen nothing yet.

        2. “Unbelievable. This officer shot Ceja 5 times and got off. Ramos said, I am going to fuck you up if you dont cooperate and gets 2nd degree muder. Something is not right.”……………. Hmmmmm

After this election and landslide approval of Prop.30 an liberal garbage, one must conclude that the public is totally retarded, therefor, a killing of dumb public by a COP is necessary.

Why do you give COPs money you left liberal moron mongoloids?… Huh?

          Because of children!…. Fiala.

    1. If you run, you die.

If you mouth off, you die.

And like our amigos to the south you cannot trust an outside agency or even a coroner to conduct a fair investigation. The system always favors itself and the wealthy.

And if you think this current generation of law enforcement is bad, you aint seen nothing yet.

      1. “And if you think this current generation of law enforcement is bad, you aint seen nothing yet.”………. Hmmmmm

Only if you give COPs your guns in exchange for a food this Christmas GunForFood drive.

The second amendment is clear on what to do with your guns.

  29. “And if you think this current generation of law enforcement is bad, you aint seen nothing yet.”

  30. Go to the “Forbes Magazine” website and search for “Countries With the Highest GNPs in the World” and “Counties With the Highest DNPs in the World.”

The USA is at the top of both lists, well above all others.

The USA is presently still the most powerful economy in the world and, perhaps, the history of the world.

“The future climate is even more important than any . . .”

Speaking of climate, I assume you believe in Global Warming. After all, its bleak forecast for the future is based upon historical data and present conditions we see all around us everyday.

    1. Economics is “a WORLDWIDE phenomenon” Corporate profit growth last year, even in a bleek economic climate was over 17%, this year maybe just 3%.

I see other countries and terrorist groups like Al Quidas support of Obama and his cronies, as a very strong negative. Never in the history of America has there been such a give away of Americas, power, prestige, wealth, and influence. Spite is a telling clue.

Americas GNP is because of producing 20-25% of the worlds goods and services and still only being 4% of the worlds population.
Unions have easily destroyed much of that capacity and more. Dont kid yourself, it is a huge power grab. (such as Big Government vs Little Government)

Climate is an often used term in Economics.
You would be wrong or out of date to call it Global Warming, the world is not warming so they call it Climate Change now, Those are the same people that doomed us into another Man Caused Ice Age in the 70s, Its like a lot of history. The greedy and crazed lying and deceiving to dupe and destroy the ignorant for things such as personal greed and gain.

        1. California is sinking yes it does. Look at the title of the post,

“Sharon Quirk, Poor Little Rich Girl and The Myth of the Union/Corporation Dichotomy”

          1. Wow. MSG.

I pointed out on another thread I’ve only been hearing that type of rhetoric for some time. Let me clue you in on how long. Since there was a Governor Brown. Not Jerry, his DAD, Pat.

If you want to believe that CA is sinking, that is your choice, and I have no interest in trying to change your mind. Like the bloggers and many fellow commentators, your mindset is set on a doomsday scenario.

Just so we know, do you have a timeframe when the collapse occurs?

Regardless, SQS got sworn into the Assembly after winning a majority of the votes in her district. Norby packed his crap and is heading home. Given that he has a recently born son, I believe it is a good thing for him to have the opportunity to spend time with him.

            1. The sky is at your feet, when Businesses try to function in California they get beat up bad and usually leave (Whole industries are pretty much gone, very many have left for good).

Democrats on a spending spree, have spent the state into despair already. Taxes arent free they kill growth and economic futures.

              1. It must really bother you then that CA is coming out of its recession. Yes whole industries are gone. That happens in a capitalist economy. I’m sure you might have known there was once a thriving buggy whip industry. It’s now gone. Markets change. Consumer tastes change with them.

And I’m sure it bothers you that California is once again the national leader in job creation. In the past year, California has added 298,000 private-sector jobs, an increase of 2.1 percent, which is more than New York, New Jersey, Florida and Nevada combined!

But do keep spouting your doom and gloom message. It’s one of the many reasons why folks like SQS got sworn in and Norby lost.

                1. Since you and the resident bloggers on this board all seem to embrace “free market” capitalism despite the fact that a “free market” hasn’t existed since the formation of the US Patent Office I’m sure you will agree a tenet of that economic belief is that one must adapt or die.

                  So I ask you.

Is the GOP in CA (and the US) adapting or dying?

    1. That means so much coming from someone who talks gloom and doom with nothing to back it up other than the usual BS.

Let us know when you bring something to the table besides the typical idiot talking points.

      1. This site is hopeless, and it’s not going to get any better. That’s my only gloom and doom observation for the day.

What is there to “discuss” with people who interpret both America and California’s top-of-the-top economic rankings as empirical proof of our complete economic failure and impending apocalypse.

I guess, according to their logic, if our country and state were at the bottom of the economic-power barrels, that would be the empirical proof of our complete exceptionalism and impending world superiority.

Why try to teach a pig how to sing? You waste a lot of your time and you irritate the pig.

I’m outta here. I wish I could say, “It’s been real.”

  31. OCRepub :
    Oh dear….
OCDem, why do you feel that whole industries have left California?

I don’t know. What I do know is that CA is still the dominant economy in the US. If one only read conservative rhetoric you’d think CA was a 3rd world country. Proving that those who make those kinds of statements haven’t been to any of those places.

    1. That’s because 40 million people live here, idiot. Pretty soon it will be fast food jobs for everybody. Everybody not working in the government, that is.

Yay! The Dictatorship of the Proletariat!!

      1. More doom and gloom predictions from one of the resident losers. Just because your life ended up behind a counter wearing a funny hat, a name tag on your chest, and asking people if they want fries doesn’t mean that is the norm for everyone else.

Here’s the fun part that must really bother you. A.) SQS got sworn in. B.) Norby got sent home. C.) One of those individuals who lived off the government their entire life was Chris Freaking Norby.

Do you consider Norby to be one of those whose only choice was government work or fast food? Funny you should make that statement.

You’re obviously clueless about your topic. I’m not surprised.

Who do you blame (other than yourself) for your life ending up being pathetic?

  32. Stanley Fiala :

“Obama decries right-to-work proposal during trip to Michigan”…….. Hmmmmm

Michigan passes anti-union ‘right to work’ measure over protests of thousands.

Poor Obama, won election and loss the people.
